what a difference a pandemic makes
I help run a teen mentoring program that runs from March thru July where we ride 3x per week for 25-70mi each ride, have a few weekend campouts, work on guidance, and train for ragbrai. Last year was obviously scraped due to the pandemic and my kids had no school or activities, so I had nothing but time every day to ride wherever since my state never shut down to any degree. 85% of my miles were solo and 90% of my rides were on my gravel bike.
FF to this year and its back to the normal routine where most all my riding between April and July is with the program so 85% of my miles are with a group and 90% of my rides are on one of my road bikes.
Itll immediately flip to 90% of miles on my gravel bike come August, but I miss all the gravel riding early in the season.
Gonna get some rare unpaved miles in this weekend though, so looking forward to that!

Those are the kids on RAGBRAI with the flags right? That's a cool program. Kudos to you.
I'm going back 'home' to Iowa this weekend and hope to get some Iowa gravel miles in too.

Hey I'm headed to Iowa this weekend too! Looking forward to those beautifully hilly white roads.

Ha, yeah those flags stand out. They were new for the most recent ride 2 years ago- some cyclists loved seeing the flags and some hated em.

While most of my rides are solo or with my SO I always ride gravel on groups. My SO is not a fan of unpaved cycling and I'm too much of a chicken to go gravel grinding solo. I haven't been on a group ride since March 2020, I miss those and gravel grinding! Fortunately I'm due to get my 2nd shot of the vaccine in a couple weeks so I'm close to be good to go to meet up with my bike buddies again
