Need info for a 1984 Shogun 600

Came with Shimano 105 Golden Arrow groupset & 27" Araya/Shimano wheels:

I would like to replace the saddle to a "correct" one. Does anyone know what brand/model was originally used?
Also, need some replacement brake hoods. Any suggestions? Cane Creek comes to mind, but not sure on the fit.

While in Japan last year, I picked up a set of Samurai Bar Tape, which I'm hoping would work well on this project.

Mahalo in advance!

The ubiquitous cane creek hoods are super ugly. The 204 hoods are a huge improvement and worth a couple more bucks:

dia-compe 204 hoods on ebay

But, for only $8 more, you can buy the real thing, rustines. Get the rustines.

I always go with ebay. But modern bike has 'em too.

Yeah, I agree on the Cane Creeks. They seem to be more for Dia Compes.
I forgot about Rustines.

Surprised no one has made reproduction vintage Shimano non-aero brake hoods.

For actual riding, Personally I would take a Seat that works for me over the "period correct" one any day but I am fortunate that I like Brooks so they usually work for the vintage look. Do the brakes have a manufacture on them i.e dia-compe weinmann etc?

For saddles Vetta was a popular choice with manufactures back in the 80s you might see if you can find a Shogun Catalog from that era online.

My '82 Shogun 300 came with a basic Kashimax saddle. You could also go with a period correct Turbo maybe?

Yes, they are early Shimano 105 Golden Arrow

No luck on finding Shogun catalogs online, just searched through previous threads that are on this website, but didn't see specifics about saddle.

I get what you're saying (I have several Brooks saddles on my bikes--and like them too), I would just like to know what was originally used...and to satisfy my curiosity.

This company was my best guess. I remember them from my BMX days. Mahalo for checking!

Hmmm...I have Turbos on my Italian bikes, so I'd like to try something different.

That was the peak of the twin bump touring saddle era. Avocet saddles were ubiquitous. Bikes usually came with some sort of OEM version: either actual Selle Italia, or a lookalike. Sorry I don't know the Shogun line, but the Kashimax version of that would be my first guess. It it could also be a 'racing' variant, like the Avocet mod II.

I see that VO has a sort of vintage look touring saddle. SOMA has some too. A Turbo wouldn't be out of place, though it would have been a bit fancy for that bike.

Leather saddles were seen as an out of fashion anachronism at the time. Shaped and thinned anatomic nylon shells with high tech padding and leather covering were SOTA.

Maybe the oem saddle was a Takara.?.

The soma turbo knockoff would be swell, though.

I’ll check them out. I’m hoping other Shogun owners will chime in.

Lol...I wonder if that was intentional since that’s the way Japanese would actually pronounce “turbo”...(ta-bo). Agreed that this would be swell.

BTW, Pixies are one of my all-time favorite bands!
