So...

Who is in the Sandy Eggo area?

Looks like I'll be there next week at Cisco Live.

No bicycle, of course, but I don't ride enough anyway...

Not me, I have to go back to Dallas for the 400th time this year. Yay.

Hop on an e-bike when you're there and explore. I assume you'll be near the convention center?

I figured out where I could combine multiple day event into one ride. I did AIDS Lifecycle first time in 2015 and I rode every mile. Here is that file.

I am signed up to do again in 2020.

Now that hip is done and I am recovered from shoulder surgery....think I can ride every mile again. I’m commuting to work several times a week to help boost metabolism.

Hitting another organized ride this weekend. MN Ironman Bike ride. I am trying my hand at the century. We'll see if I can do this one too. I'm skeptically confident.

That's cool and an impressive ride. Is the combining function something in RidewithGPS? I've never explored that.

"Ironman"? Are you doing just the bike leg from a full Ironman event, others are doing all 3 or picking the parts they are interested in?

I did a beachrun-bike-run 'duathlon' a couple times, and that was kinda cool (operated in tandem with a regular triathlon), but would never do a triathlon because I have zero interest in swimming. If I could cherry-pick 2/3 of, say, a sprint triathlon I might be interested.

I did a solo version similar to that route in 2017, want to do it again but I'll stick to the coastline since the road is repaired now.

Def the most memorable ride i've done. Really fun, and challenging at times.

The MN Ironman Bike ride has been around since 1967. It is not a triathlon, I believe the name predates the that triathlon series so they are allowed to still use it. It's just a recreational ride. Traditionally it was at the end of April before a pause last year. We had ridden a 52 mile ride in 2017. In MN the end of April can get the strangest weather. We rode through, rain, snow and sleet. On the busiest road in the last 9 miles we had a downpour with car spray. It was a good time because I forgot all of our rain gear. You have to be an iron man(woman) to ride in weather like that. We'll see how much it rains on Saturday, its in the forecast now and would only be fitting for this ride.

You can combine two rides that occur consecutively on ridewithgps. But not more.

I used https://feub.net/gps-track-tools/merge-activities/

it allows total file size of 64mb for all gpx files yiu want to combine.

It was cool to see my entire ride as one. My average speed was respectable 13 mph for entire thing.

Now I have incentive to ride all miles again

4:00 a.m. ride to the airport tomorrow. Ugh. It's actually been warmer in Missoula (mid-80s) than it has been in Philly. Long range forecast looking good. Lots of dirt miles Monday and Tuesday so I am hoping for no rain. One cool thing about being on the eastern edge of the Pacific time zone when I hit Idaho is that sunrise on the third morning will be about 4:45 a.m.

Rode down to Oceanside on Saturday to see the start of RAAM... the individuals left on 6/11 but the teams all left Saturday. Very fun to see so many nutters all in one spot!

Then, since the Amtrak Century is no more (replaced by a similar ride that ends back up in Carlsbad at Rouleur brewing company rather than DT San Diego), we decided to go scope out the brewery.

Ended up back in O-side for the train back north!

@TrojanHorse, I saw the pics on the book of faces. Looks like fun. One of our club member's son has been on the winning RAAM team the last couple years. Don't know if he's riding again this year. I remember watching RAAM on ABC Wide World of Sports back in the '80s. Brutal.

And you're leaving us hanging on the brewery review?

Yes!

Actually, I quite enjoyed it. Pretty small, no food but the two beers we had were pretty tasty. I'd go again. Matter of fact, now I"m tempted to do the OCW ride!

Gone, not happening, just like another train to nowhere.

Apparently new mgmt at Amtrak put the kibosh to private train charters. That’s why there was no train last year, last minute substitution of busses. But without the train there’s no particular need to ride all those wonderful streets into Downtown San Diego. So OCW is changing it up, turn around at the top of Torrey Pines (still get your popsicle there), back to Carlsbad for the finish at the brewery. Also allows for a metric option too.

This is a bit of a euphemism though: This section is an approved bike route riding on a newly paved & swept surface that is 8 feet wide

Just because cyclists are allowed doesn't make it anything like what I would call a "bike route"... even though on Saturdays you can usually keep up with the cars.
