Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

True, but these are not entry level bikes and I would expect a lot of the people buying them already own a suitable head unit.

You can pair it to your phone, which can be mounted on your handlebars for $30.

I think that this could be covered during the retailer (of the bike) negotiations with the buyer. Well, I can't drop the price, but I can throw in the activation......

The Venn diagram that covers the overlap cyclists with power meter and phones mounted on handle bars looks sort of like this: O O

Sorry... that's just not an ideal solution for most serious cyclists

It's certainly a small minority, but that description is a little harsh.

Why not? It works great for me. Sure, on the 4 times a year I'm doing a ride over 5 hours I need to bring an extra battery pack, other than that, what am I missing?

- Battery life is the big one
- Having a comparatively fragile $700 computer on the bar - vulnerable to weather, crashes
- To solve ^ that^ requires a bulky case... furthering the next one: They're big. Just a 3"x6" slab of technology stuck on the bar is, while definitely subjective, isn't what most riders are after.

Your phone will stay on and bright enough to display metrics for 4+ hours? I use my phone on the trainer combined with zwift and drain 40% of the battery in like a hour.
