Addiction LXXX

Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Notice how these Europeans have enough sense to be wearing masks during a pandemic. Even though they’re young, and even though they’re outdoors.

I got in a shouting match with a rather corpulent woman in Breckinridge. We were on a supported tandem tour and a group of us had stopped downtown. There was a triplet in the group and while it was leaning against a short wall, this woman grabs it and tries to straddle it while yelling at the other rather hefty friends with her to take her picture. I ran over and told her to leave it alone and a shouting match ensued and she finally waddled away.

Besides being a hefty and unwieldy rolling machine, the lady was attempting to “molest” someone’s custom $16,000 triplet bike.

That would piss me off. Why the **** would someone think that it's okay to handle and straddle another person's bike?

She’s lucky that I was the one shouting at her because after the owner returned and I told him what had transpired, he was murderous.

I’m two double espressos in while watching the Giro and the Tour of Flanders and vibrating a little. Going to wait an hour or so before a third.

Going to make my second double right now. Being out of town for a couple days, and being away from my espresso machine, was tough sledding, 'specially since the only good coffee shop in the downtown area of Duluth is indefinitely closed due to the pandemic.

There were a couple of places that are a step up from Starbucks, but they didn't even open 'til 9am. Like, WTF? I need coffee to get to 9am.

Pass.

I should be able to cross 5k for the year when I do get out for a ride, though.

Woah. Apparently 10 question marks is a bad word now. Maybe @datlas was right about the censor.

Hmmm. 5 question marks yields 10 asterisks.

I didn't think I'd typed 10 question marks in the first place.

We're really getting some NorCal style fall weather here. 91 on Thursday, 95 on Friday, 93 yesterday. Got down to 56 overnight.

Friday afternoon's ride, the humidity was so low I could feel my throat drying out in the first mile. Every time I took a drink I had to gargle a little to rewet the tissues.
