Notices
Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I've gone to shaving every other day, I agree that's been pretty nice

Not sure how to do it with the chain breaker. The one I have is quite basic

Some Shimano chains are directional. The story is the link plates are shaped to allow smoother shifting. I'm not sure how much difference it makes if you put it on wrong but once the shift is completed it shouldn't make any difference.

If you stand on the pedals and the chain skips over the teeth on the cassette you need a new cassette. When this happens it feels like you are stripping a gear and it is violent. This assumes obvious things are checked, like chain wrap around the cog and derailleur tension.
Is this the same bike that had the chain hanging limp? I hope you got that sorted before you put on a new chain.

I may, or may not, have bought it for the cool brushed aluminum case.

After changing an 11 speed chain, and setting a Shimano quick link, I'm not sure you can seat one of those on the road. I was worried about stomping the pedal, and it wasn't happening by hand. I used a large set of snap ring pliers, and it took some force to seat it.

When I put my chain on wrong last time, before I realized it was wrong I had seated it by stomping on the pedal. It worked fine.

Edit: Now that I think about it. I should look around and see if I have a climbing cassette somewhere. I just realized I'm doing all this with a 53/39 and 25 x12 no wonder I'm grinding all the way up.
One problem is how this fits into my training week. I normally do 2 shorter rides during the week, but knowing I was going to do Innsbruck on Wednesday, I decided to do a lighter ride on Tuesday to try out the Bianchi on the trainer (I had been riding the Ritchey), and I did the "Epic KOM", nowhere near full gas, just to check out the gearing. Then last night I did Innsbruck with that long climb, which took a lot out of me. And Stage 3 started last night and only runs till Monday midnight. I don't think I want to do ANOTHER big climb tomorrow, I don't have time Saturday, and I don't want to ride indoors on Sunday, and Monday I'll be working onsite. I guess maybe I can do this ride during 'make up week'?

I agree. I was in a rush when I ordered and didn’t realize the chain came with the pins, so now that I have them, I’d rather use them.
