Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have some concern about the health implications of that much animal protein, chiefly the potential effect of whey powder (dairy) on prostate cancer risk. I consume about 40 g/day and have cut back on the cheese and yogurt. LSS is on still on a low-carb diet, loves her beef and pork, and has subscribed us to a fancy, locally produced, meat thing, so I'm also eating way more of that than I would otherwise. Oh well, at least I'll go out well fed.
Understand completely. I was a bit worried too, but as you say, I'm going out healthy and strong, and relatively well fed. I do drill home 25g of protein before I nap, and I honestly think that helps. Of course, I don't get to sleep straight through the night anymore, but.. I can sleep when I'm... Well. You know..

Are you talking about the 8" combo or just an 8" jointer? I've heard mixed reviews about the smaller combos - nice if they're aligned, but next to impossible to tune of they're out.

I'd pick up a decent long bed 6" jointer for $200 in a heartbeat.

I do have an older RBI 13" planer, but it's in the garage and the rollers are too old to grip in the current temps. I'm also thinking about the next house, where shop space will be more limited. Also, the 12" jointing would be really nice to have, as would the ability to upgrade to helix cutters.

Ha. I guess that the shop space will be increased, if we're strictly talking about the basement dungeon and not factoring the current 2.5 car garage (that's too cold for a significant chunk of the year). The new (prospective) place would have a 2-car garage on the lowest level; I don't know if it'll be conditioned the same as the rest of the house, but even if it's not, I would think that it'd be cozy enough since it's not freestanding and has regulated spaces above and to the side.

Still, though, shop space would be at a premium and I'll have to be smart about both the shop and the bikes.

The north end of Cazenovia lake has been frozen for a while. I know, because of the ice fishing huts dotting that part of the lake.

Just the jointer. Building guitars, I hardly need any joint wider than 2”, and was looking for a smaller one, but how is one to resist an 8” jet jointer for that price?

dewalt’s 13” planer comes with helical cutters and is quite robust if it also fits your purpose. Have never seen it on Craigslist though, buyers more than usually keep them until the estate sale pries it from their dead cold hands.

I probably mentioned this before, but other than the router/table and ridgid oscillating belt sander, I’ve sourced everything from Craigslist. $50 for a 15” drill press, 125 each for the 13” planer and 14” band saw with 6” riser, and the jointer. That’s why having to bid up to $75 for an 8” jointer plane was though.
