Been a while since I saw a 'Rode my Age' thread here
So, 'Rode my Age' plus a lot on Saturday.
You might have seen some or all of the Tour De France stage 1 in Yorkshire, Northern England on July 5th. Well, that was the route on Saturday 12th.
Beautiful day, beautiful countryside, beautiful hills - but 3 painful ones. Cray, Buttertubs and Grinton Moor. About 3 miles at 1:10 apiece. Each of which had a glorious descent to balance the pain! New max of 54mph!
Apart from these, mainly rolling smooth roads with short climbs from time to time that could be tackled by standing for a minute.
I put the softer saddle from my folder onto the bike - and now I think it's staying there! Heavier, bulkier and so much more comfortable!
I'm feeling very pleased.

I haven't been riding enough to keep my butt in shape for a metric century. The rest of me could do a flatfish ride of that length, but I'd probably have to do the last 20 mi. standing.

Got my ride-your-age (58) done with bonus miles to survive 73 miles at the local Tour de Cure.
The Rules allow us to rollover the extra miles to backfill missed rides in the past or use as comp miles against future birthday rides, right?

I'm 64 and just completed my 64th California double century, so I'm counting that as riding my age 
.
The Spring Solvang double century is often on my birthday, but no way I'm living to be 200 so I just modified the formula to fit my situation

You're probably impressed with what a beautiful road it is. Or (for sure) the great views you have when going up Potrero!
Okay, actually, there are 3 Potrero climbs.
1. Pre-Potrero, A nice climb and it warms up your legs for . . .
2. The "Real" Potrero, just so you know what 20% really feels like (for, okay, maybe longer than you wanted).
and finally,
3. Post Potrero, after a little jog, a longish but not too steep climb with the day's 2nd Checkpoint about 2/3 of the way up.
I know you gotta love Potrero; I sure do

2. the Real Potrero....that one is an attention getter for sure! For some reason I have a tendency to attack hills (at Easter Sierra I made sure to stay with my riding partners). At this point I kept telling myself to take it easy. About 3/4 up the climb my legs gave out and I stopped for about a minute. I didnt walk; somehow I did get going again. (and did the same thing about a hundred yards later...). I was breathing pretty hard by the time I got to the top and we regrouped. Pre and Real Potrero are definitely harder than Sage Rd at Hemet.
3. I never even thought about Post Potrero.....mabye because I was looking forward to the sag !

Next year, az_cyclist, You will make it up the Real Potrero without stopping! Is it brutal? Yes. But it is do-able!
My 34 x 32 gearing is a huge help, of course. But . . . any climb is always most difficult the first time you do it. Now that you know it (as opposed to having only heard the horror stories from other riders), next time will be (a bit) easier.

Rode my age in kilometers yesterday. Farthest ride so far. I started out to do 26 miles but decided to at the miles needed to make it an age ride in kilometers. Hopefully an age ride in miles soon.

Memorial ride for a friend killed 2 years ago today when hit by a big rig. He was 65 when he died so I went out at 0205 this morning with temperature at 81F, high humidity and rode 65 miles. Got back home, showered, changed clothes then wheels on the bike. Went back out to join our group for their memorial ride and I completed another 68 miles.
