Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Clipless Pedals: RS500 vs R7000

Anyone have actual experience between the Shimano RS500 and the R7000 pedals? Seems like a big price difference and wondering if anyone has noticed any big difference in use. Thanks.

I don’t have those but I do have Dura Ace 9000 and Ultegra r8000. Zero difference for me in terms of on the bike riding experience.

About a 100 grams difference.

Price differences usually among the different Shimano stuff that looks the same is usually the tier group is it intended for. Higher tier stuff being made from more expensive materials with weight being one of the things they are looking to reduce.

Also, price differences come from one being an older product model that is about out of production or about to be. Don't know if that's yours though.

Or are you just strictly wanting a how well does one work over the other answer?

Mainly looking for someone’s real-world experience to perhaps justify added expense (apart from weight and model year)

I have older model RS5000s, 105s, and Dura Ace 9000s. Apart from the differences in weight, I find that the balanced weight of the R9000s is a little better - this means that when clipping in without looking down, the R9000s are more likely to be sitting in the exact correct position. The lower end Shimanos aren't bad in this way (my Favero Assiomas are a royal pain in this regard), but the pedal ends up upside down more frequently, requiring that little maneuver to turn them around.

Also, the composite pedals are a little less slippery when wet than the steel pedals - which again only matters when clipping in.

But these are quibbles. They are all good pedals.
