Topeak PanoComputer
Hey All,
I ride every morning and am not into a vigorous training program; my rides are for maintaining my health and the pure joy of cycling on a classic road bike. As a retiree I can't see spending a lot of money on a Garmin GPS unit, or invest in one of those spoke pickup speed and distance units.
BTW, the road bike is a 1984 Motobecane Mirage Sport that I picked up as a basket case and restored it to original specs over 6 weeks.
So. . . here is the question as I've never had a bike computer and calculate my daily mileage based on my cars odometer:
Is the Topeak PanoComputer, or any lower end GPS bike unit, acceptable for a daily cyclist like me?
Any comments are appreciated.
Ride hard, ride safe.

I made this post into its own thread. I don't know that specific computer, but if you like tracking your miles, a gps is a great way to do it. Especially if it can upload to strava or ridewithgps or a similar site.

If all you want to do is track miles, something like this will do: https://www.amazon.com/Bell-Dashboar...ateway&sr=8-47.

That computer is $150 (including a BT wheel speed sensor). You can get computers that just track mileage and display speed for $20. Sure, you'd have to type the number into a spreadsheet or something...
This computer uses the phone for GPS tracking.
The PanoComputer comes with "one of those spoke pickup" units. I'm not sure if it would work without it.
=====================
Maybe, get a cheap computer and see how it works for you.

I've bought quite a few of those ultra-cheap bike computers on ebay. The common brand is SunDing. I have not had any trouble with them. They work fine. Some are less than $6.

Hey All,
Well, I finally found an inexpensive computer for my daily run; a Cateye Strada Wireless on Craigslist for $20. The guy selling it went up to a Garmin Edge for his $4,000 Trek Domane, the beautiful shiny bike sitting in his garage.
BTW, since I'm retired, I rather enjoy sitting in the Lanai, looking at the bike, filling out my Excel datasheet as I drink my morning coffee! Today it's a 10 mile (16km) run and maybe, just maybe, tomorrow it might be 15 miles (24kms.)
Thank you all for your valuable contribution. . . really appreciate it!
