Turnbull is cool but you really have to watch out for the wanna be Marios on that road! I used to ride it really often, since my house is about 3 miles from the base. My son used to practice water polo at Whittier College, so I'd take him and go up and down Turnbull for 2 hours. (well, up once, down once and then somewhere else).

It was nice to find something not far from my house (further than from yours) with climbing I can work on. And roads I can explore. I get tired of driving to ride hills.

Not yet, but ALLEGEDLY there is one coming to "poet's corner" right off Greenleaf (the main dinky street through town). Any year now, I tell you, any year.

But no, I"d usually head over and up Colima, ride through La Habra a bit on West road and then back to the college to wait for the kid.

Gonna do it tonight too, PV style.

I remembered what I like about riding after sunset - the temperature! Nice breeze, 65 degrees, no sun. Divine.

I almost flattened two kids though, just jumped right out in front of me on the bike path. Gotta be on your toes on those bike paths I tell ya.

BAH! Worst summer cycling season ever. Between work and traveling for work and my WIFE'S damn work, its been hard to squeeze in any rides, even indoors.

I am at 350 miles for July.

Saturday 7/27/19: I am planning a ride to Oceanside out of Orange Metrolink station...either route thru Santiago Cyn or down SART and along coast (if too hot or I'm riding alone). I am planning on getting to the station at 7:15am and rolling by 7:30AM....finish up at Breakwater Brewing...then hop on train back

Looks like I will be riding solo on Saturday. Thankfully I am independent enough to ride alone if need be.

Riding thru Santiago Cyn is what I prefer to do rather than boring SART to PCH route. I need the climbing too as I am doing Cool Breeze this year and need climbing in my run up to that.

Those in the know... @TrojanHorse ... if by myself will I be able to put my bike in a secure spot at Breakwater Brewing? Or would you recommend alternative. Don't want to bring lock if I can avoid it.

my shifting problems were related to 4300 miles on my chain. I was so far stretched it wouldn't drop into a gear HAHA

Breakwater is sometimes bike friendly and sometimes not. If they let you bring the bike on the patio - no worries. If not, head a timy bit further south to Bagby Beer Company... a wider beer selection, a huge establishment and they have never given me grief ever about putting my bike on the patio.

We were at Breakwater two weeks ago, no problem with bikes, we must have brought 10 onto the patio, but we were there about 1130, not very busy. Freeway shoulder was very clean as well, hope it’s the same for you.

Why is it things like HVAC always take a dump on Friday evenings? When my t-stat calls for cooling the outside compressor comes on but the inside blower does not. Looks like I need a new control board, ordered one online but it won’t be here til Monday. So I wired up a manual bypass switch to get power to the blower. So to get cooling I now turn on the bypass switch, then switch the t-stat to cool, let it run til it’s down to temp and the stat shuts off the compressor, then go upstairs and switch off the blower. Better than no AC I guess!

My friends and I hugged the coast and rode from Laguna Niguel to Solana Beach for lunch at Pizza Port. Then it was back to Oceanside for a couple of more brews at Breakwater and the return train.

I haven't checked for a while, was around 202-204 a couple months ago. Been trying to break the 200# barrier, will have to check for a few days now to see if this is a fluke. I haven't been sub-200 since 1976.

Oddly, I have that exact same problem but I'm going to let somebody else look at it tomorrow. It's an old system, if they fail to show, I might do the hobo bypass rig you did. . Meanwhile, my whole house fan is ALSO misbehaving so the house is unreasonably hot this year.

Ours is 20 years old, we replaced it shortly after we bought this house in 1999. The manual has a nice schematic so I was able to identify the fan power leads. The low speed fan only switch worked, so I pulled the wire off that tab and put the wire for the high speed AC fan feed on it, turned on the fan at the stat and it ran so I confirmed the fan itself is ok. Then just had to connect that high speed fan lead to a 120VAC hot lead with an old light switch, single gang box, some bits of wire and a crimp-on spade terminal. Whole unit is rated at 12 amps so I used 14ga wire, nothing is getting hot, smoking, sparking or melting, so all good!

Control board shipping was delayed, now supposed to be here tomorrow morning so the hack has been great. Happy wife, happy life, right?
