Hi everyone,

I am looking at these two, Masi here and Cinelli here. Both under 2k.
Preferably I'd love to stay away from the big brands but also don't want to go custom built due to the $$$. So I thought these two slightly niche gravel setups might fit the bill quite well.
I can't find much information so I am wondering if there are any insights here? Weight, geometry etc.
I will mostly ride it along the awful streets of Oakland California, some moderate gravel riding and am planning on some overnight, light touring.

Mostly I am looking for a versatile and durable fun ride to complement my road setup.

Between those two specific models I would go for the Masi.
I like the look more, the steel tubing is entry level but fine, and the components are significantly nicer for how I ride.

The Masi's drivetrain is more versatile for how I ride and the brakes are a step up over the Cinelli.
To be clear- neither has high end brakes though.

No idea about wheelsets for either as they are either house brand(masi) or I just haven't heard of the brand(Shining for Cinelli?). Based on that and the price, I doubt either bike's wheels will be light or of a high quality. So I guess that's a wash.


Geometry for both bikes is listed in the links you provided.

Cinelli weight is listed at 10.4kg. No idea which size that is though.

If I were to base a decision on website only, the cinelli wouldnt be in consideration. Nearly worthless site.

I love the look of the Cinelli. Really good looking bike. I've seen one out in the wild and love it. If you're in the bay area, would Mash SF have any info on Cinelli's for you?

Or... you could overcome your need to avoid big brands and get a Giant TCX SLR

I have a two year old Cinelli Zydeco and love it. It has a different build (Tiagra, TRP Spyres). The Zydeco is a bit unique and I have never come across another one, even at the bigger gravel events down here. I bought it because my local shop was a Cinelli dealer and I wanted to support them and have a Cinelli. I use it on the gravel and crummy road urban rides. To be honest though, of the two bikes you have listed, the Masi looks like a better build, especially if you are good with the steel frame. Let us know what you decide!

Thanks everyone for your input.

I have decided to go with the Masi actually. It appears to just be the superior setup.
It is a little with a heavy heart as I am absolutely in love with the bonkers look of the Cinelli. But yeah, bike are to be ridden, not just looked at.
