As some of you know, I live in Suxville, PA.

Major buzz-kill on my psyche. No mtn biking, no sunshine, snow, ice, salt, depressed area.

I will use this primarily for road bike obviously. However, it just so happens it will fit the mtn bike too

I will get some skinny 26" slicks. I would only do this for a few rides primarily to see if bike ergonomics feel good, etc.

If my calculations are correct, this gizmo should allow me to slap Lance's ass as I pass him at mile 80 on Powerline Hill.

heck yeah my little buddy. these aren't just any rollers. watch youtube vids of them. about the closest to real thing you can get short of an uber expensive bike TM.

remember, these endurance XC events are sometimes tame and road riding is probably one of the better ways to train. I am not doing that crazy dangerous DH stuff. Old people, like myself, have no business doing that.

I have never used those - but I have spent a bunch of time (10 years or so) on rollers. I think they are an awesome training tool. Good luck on your adventure this year - wish I was going.

Don't ride much mtb here anymore, when I train, I'll go out and train in the elements, builds character.

they are pretty much the best out there. They have a patent. they are expensive.

they are made very nice from what I could tell on an independent blogger who took like 500 close ups

yes, there is the potential for DIY'ers out there. just youtube "e-motion DIY"

I do not have the tooling or time to tackle the DIY. I will pay. From what I can tell, it will last many years.

Ride outside even if it means (gasp) riding on the road is my choice. Good luck on your ambitious cycling year. If you can take some pics before and after and make sure to have a ton of fun.

I signed up via Leadman. I am automatically in if I compete in the Leadville Marathon and the Leadville Silver-rush 50-miler. I do have to meet some cut-offs. I suppose if I DNF the Silver rush I am screwed for the real deal

I paid the normal price and have no reason to endorse them.

I love them so far. One of the best cycling investments I have made and I should have bought them a long time ago.

I cannot speak to longevity obviously. All I can say is they appear to be made very nicely. Sure it is a simple design...but just not worth the time and effort of a DIY project. (you'll find some on the net, youtube I believe) You cannot replicate these to the same degree for less than they cost. Not to mention, a day of my labor is worth more a few hundred bucks!

The DIY'ers on the net do not compare. There are smaller ball bearings on this thing that you do not even see that provide nice smooth action.

Anyway, I was riding them within minutes and standing within 5-10 minutes. Longest ride so far is about 1.5 hours. I set them up in front of TV and rent movies. Time passes no problem.

Resistance has not been an issue. I have been riding at the #1 setting and basically you just shift gears for different cadence/resistance.

Feels very real to ride them. I never had any other rollers so I cannot compare. However, with the small oscillations back and forth, I do not think I am missing out. You can still learn to be smooth with these and spin circles.

I did fall once because I got distracted by an action scene in "Wrong Turn 3".

If you and your wife have different wheel base bikes, which I am sure you do, you will have to adjust the front roller. I guess this would be true of any rollers. You could probably mark spots with a sharpie. I actually got a plumb bob to get the front wheel directly over roller because it was an excuse to buy a new tool.

apparently, a smaller framed mtn bike will work too. I plan to put slicks on my mtn to get a long ride or two if I am unable to go outside. I just want to do it a couple times to make sure the ergos feel ok.

With regard to the people saying just get outside, use headlights, etc etc... Yup, I have lights. Yup, outside is more fun. However, even for warm weather there are times when I simply do not want to rig up lights, gather nutrition, water bottles, pumps, cell phone, spare tube, ..... with this, I can hop on super quick and watch a movie or whatever after work. I think you could do other things too...just set up a small table next to you. Remotes for TV, telephone on speaker, maybe go through some mail...discuss things with wife if she is riding next to you.

I think you might like it so much you will get two so you can put them side by side in front of the big screen and pop in your favorite Tour de France video or comedy (no action or horror movies, you might crash like me).

Oh, I do need to get some fans. This is sort of a no brainer...I am not a big sweater either.

In summary, I love mine. I think it is definitely worth the money

The crashing was no joke. Not sure what happened. I really did get distracted by the movie. It's not like they take a ton of concentration, so I don't know. I might have been a little tired too.

I literally went over, no time to unclip.

I would caution you to have it set up where there is nothing you might hit your head on, furniture, whatever.

If you do get two, you might want to put enough space between so you don't take each other out.

Thanks for the review and the movie recommendations! I would not like to cause my wife to crash. Although, she doesn't watch horror movies & action movies aren't high on her list.

I sucked it up and hit the rewind button too. I had to make sure I caught the part where the mutant hillbilly was stabbing the Mexican leader jail guy. I felt so vulnerable...

Well, the rollers will have to wait. We decided today that we're setting up a home gym. Can't get my wife out of the house to go across the street. Hopefully, I'll be able to get her across the hallway
