When my son learned to ride a few years ago, he wanted his mom to help him so I just took off the training wheels and stood back & watched. Knowing how much of a daddy's girl our daughter is, she'll probably only want me to help her.

ETA: Sometimes you just have to let kids learn things how they want to learn them.
