Cyclocross and Gravelbiking (Recreational) This has to be the most physically intense sport ever invented. It's high speed bicycle racing on a short off road course or riding the off pavement rides on gravel like : "Unbound Gravel". We also have a dedicated Racing forum for the Cyclocross Hard Core Racers.

What did you just buy for your gravel bike?

I just ordered a set of thru axles. And the Gravel Stumpy does not use thru axles.

The bicycle that they are for does not yet exist. Or, at least, it has yet to reach its distributor. But I'll give away the most important piece of information: the frame will be purple.

Gonna move on from that sweet drop bar conversion?
Man- that Stumpy is fantastic looking. Few 26er drop bar conversions look like they originally belong that way due to rider dimensions mucking up the look. Yours is an exception.

I don't have any plans to ditch the Stumpy.

Imagine getting up one day, deciding that you want your beverage to taste like Gatorade Arctic Blitz, and then not having a bike to color-match the drink. That would be awful!

I've never punctured my Rat Traps off pavement, including riding roads covered in thorns. Most debris in my area that's aggressive enough to poke through tread rubber is man-made, and human traffic is low out in the foothills.
If you live in goathead territory, tubeless would probably be mandatory.

Sidewall cuts are a potential problem on roads with big sharp rocks. I'd recommend against erring narrow on tire width.

So when can we expect to see this color matched bike?

You need to up your beverage color game. The purple bike is going to be for those Riptide Rush days.

Frameset might land some time this month.

So Vittoria loves to play "Guess the right tire size game". These aren't going on the bike for a bit as I just got Overrides back on, but I ordered 700x35c anticipating (per Amazon reviews) exactly this. Again.

Cool. I'll report but keep in mind that if they don't get a flat then all I can really report is that they didn't flat LoL.

I've only had one flat on gravel and that was a sidewall cut on a Gravel King SK. I hit a pile of large rocks during a race. Others were nearby putting in tubes and whatnot. I was lucky - spun the tire and it sealed, gave it a shot of Co2 and proceeded on. But yeah, it was 4" chunk.

BTW, I purchased from AMain as they had free shipping.

@Spoonrobot says they are good on all surfaces.

Reviews say they roll extremely well on pavement.

We'll test them on doublebraches and the GLCP road. Then you and I can do Big Frog Rd in the Cohutta. You can ride my RLT and I'll ride the MCR which you are about to buy.

Well, I'm hoping they are good enough to curb my desire for a new frame to fit bigger tires.

I had those 37c Terreno Zero's on my prior gravel bike, set up tubeless, and they were great mixed used tires. A bit more road oriented, but still did decent on hard packed trails.

LOL MCR! The cheapest one is $4,700. I can put the 26X2.0's on my specialized and we can compare the tires. What size did you get the ReneHerse in?

They are advertised as 38 mm wide.

Rims are 22 mm inside width.

Tanwalls are going to give that bike the "Serious gravel snob" look. I'll have to wear Rapha cargo bibs from now on.

Smart move! I was in a similar situation, as my frame only fits 38mm. My wheels are 21mm internal width and they fit perfectly. Gave me a lot more volume than my previous tires. Love them btw... yes they do roll pretty darn good on pavement. But they are my absolute favs climbing the rilling hills with rocky loose gravel.

Totally worth it imo. I’m getting another set of wheels for road. Finally broke down and am gonna give a shot.

Two sets of Fidlock bottles with their respective magnetic holders. It's awesome! Bottles are super easy to take off the bike and they easily snap back into place without much effort and they won't come off unless you want them to! Amazing tech and coming out of germany as well!

It's not in my hands yet, but theoretically there's a 50cm Ultra Violet Road+ frameset in that box.
