FS: 1970s English frameset w/ mods

Let the herd-thinning continue! This one is a bit of an odd one (though nice). Seems to be a 1970s English-made frameset w/ super thinned Nervex lugs and fastback seat cluster, Campagnolo dropouts front and rear. I posted it some years back on BF, but did not get a definitive ID. Clearly it was modded at some point with the addition of downtube shifter bosses and single water bottle mounts. The seat cluster looks to have had a repair (or at least there's a chunk of paint missing). Also, there's an odd nipple, kind of crude thing, under the downtube right between the shifter bosses. No idea what that was for. At any rate, it's a lightweight, comfortable ride that I had outfitted with 700c x 28mm tires. More specs:

seat tube: 57cm center to top
top tube: 56cm center to center
chain stay: 43cm
rear spacing: 124mm (I ran it with a 7-speed wheel)
Note that it takes nutted brakes (more evidence that it's from the 1970s).
Takes a 27.0mm seat post.
Frame weight = 4.23lbs, fork weight = 1.76 lbs, so just about 6 lbs in total.
Serial # 936472 on frame and fork (so a 1972?).

Overall paint condition is decent though there's a chunk missing where the front derailleur clamps goes and a few other chips here and there. No dents.

Sale includes frame, fork, seat cluster bolt, and dropout adjusters. No headset. Price is $150 plus shipping from zip 02446 in the CONUS via ShipBikes.

Mystery "Nipple"

My '72 Falcon San Remo has a similar "nipple" on the underside of the downtube to prevent the banded DT shifters from shifting down the tube. That's the only braze-on on the bike.

I suspect the shifter bosses were added on later in your frame's life.

Beautiful bike! If I didn't already have the Falcon...

Good luck with your sale!

Man that would be a fun project. What's the max tire you reckon can fit?

I ran it with 28mm tires w/ adequate clearance.

That's a ridiculously good deal for a frame that nicely built. Getting Nervex Pros down to that level of refinement takes ages, and it is obvious that this was done right - this wasn't just a few hapazard passes with a bandfile.

Even the bottom bracket cable routing was (obviously) given much consideration, and the inverted Campagnolo cable guide is a pretty slick trick. Not to mention that the Bocama bottom bracket was chosen to match the Nervex Pros.

Whoever built this deserves a standing ovation...

-Kurt

Wish I knew. Is that a dent I see in the pic, on the down tube near the cable guides/FD?

What are the angles in this frame? It looks like a steeper head tube than the seat tube.
What size 650b do you think it would run?

Brian, I measure the frame angles with my digital gauge as 73 degrees parallel. On 650B fitting, I was able to get a 650B x 38mm wheel in the rear, but clearance was very tight. If one were to get the chain stays dimpled (they are not currently), you'd have plenty of clearance for 38mm tires, maybe even 42mm. Front end has lots of clearance and would fit 42mm tires no problem.

I've updated the original thread with a guess about the maker of this frame.
