I Love/Hate wind
today i was happy to get out and ride in the cool air . . . .. then i took a turn and had to fight the wind for 7 miles. Lets hope its blowing the same direction on the way home. I am also happy about my drop bars, without them i would have been tempted to turn around and got get my car haha

If your luck is like mine, then I can guarantee that it will be against you on the way home!! The wind apparently hates me and I hate it right back.

I absolutely hate the wind when biking, there is a long stretch of road on my way to work and the wind is always blowing in my face, its an absolute nightmare when its the first thing in the morning! Much more fun on the way home =)

My commute is extra special: riding into downtown Boston, I get the onshore breeze in my face in the AM; then in the evening, I get the offshore breeze in my face going home. Headwind both ways, pretty much guaranteed every day.

I was curious one day and looked up the term "tailwind".
An interesting albeit foreign concept. Maybe someday....

What kind of bike do you have? If you sit upright on it then wind will definitely annoy you. I installed bar ends on my folder and now can cut through wind like butter :-)

I made a New Year's resolution not to kvetch about headwinds. I think it's made me more attractive, but I could be mistaken.

I can easily tell which way the wind is officially blowing by the air traffic pattern at National Airport as I ride by, and it often seems to be a headwind both ways. I'm trying to be better about complaining about it, though... i.e., I try to think of it as better exercise! :-)
That being said, it feels good to have a good tailwind. Usually means I can shave a few minutes off my commute time - makes me feel good if it's one of those days when I'm timing my ride pretty closely.

The only time I get a tailwind is if I'm going downhill, and have to waste it by applying the brakes.
Once in a blue moon, I will think to myself, "wow, I'm going over 30 mph! Why don't I feel any wind in my face?" Then I immediately realize how bad it will be on the way home.

Yup, headwind both ways...uphill both ways, too. Just like when I was a kid walking to school in the snow.

Today was definitely a fight to get to work.
I have mixed emotions about the wind. I know I get better exercise when it's blowing(always a headwind, of course!), and I don't really have any decent hills on my commute, so I'm trying hard to appreciate it after the ride, because during the ride, I'm too busy huffing, puffing, and cussing it between labored breaths.

I usually have headwinds both ways too.
On my commute home, I go past a store with a huge flag on a huge pole, with the flag blowing in the same direction I'm traveling. The first few times, I thought I might get a bit of a tailwind, but, no, I have a headwind. I've even stopped to make sure, and the flag is definitely blowing and not being held up by some other means. I'm riding in a bayou (a big open drain basically) and the store is up on the bank, so that might have something to do with it.
I've also learnt to basically ignore the "wind direction" part of the weather forecast. The "wind speed" is usually helpful though.
