How do I take off the cassette on this wheelset?

Hi there. I hope someone can help me with a few questions. Thanks for helping out.

I don't know how to take the cassette off this wheel. I have the chain locker lever to lock the cassette but I am not sure what kind of tool I need to undo the cassette.

I have taken a few photos that might explain what it looks like:

Your cassette is super friggin dirty so its a little hard to tell, but probably a common hyperglide tool, like a Park FR-5.

This is a bike that doesn’t get used much. I am planning to put the eagle gx on it. How do I remove the crankset? Just use spanner wrench to unscrew the bottom bracket on both ends?

It appears you have a UniGlide cassette.
You need a 2nd chain whip to screw off the smallest cog.

No tool other than 2 chain whips. One to hold the rest of the cassette from spinning while you screw off the smallest cog.

A little penetrating oil applied ahead of time would reap rewards.

Unless someone did something really, really hinky, that hub doesn’t have a Uniglide on it. It’s a White Industries CLD which is at least 20 year newer than Uniglide. The FR-5 and a single chain whip are all that are needed.

And I agree with cpach. Quit abusing a great hub! Don’t make me turn you in!

That looks like a SRAM crank. Here’s a video on how to remove the crank and cups

It’s relatively easy.

Question for the OP just out of curiosity.
Is that an 11speed or is it a 12 speed cassette?
I couldn't tell from your photo, but I noticed
the 10T first cog.

Pedaling Walrus, it might be helpful to clean that up a bit and take another picture.

I don’t see a lockring and am thinking with Bill Kapaun as a Uniglide hub. I count 11t, you have to go by the tooth to tooth spacing and not just what seems visible.

My guess is a Dura Ace Uniglide, maybe 8 speed freehub body. I suppose it is possible to run a 10 speed hyperglide cassette on an 8 speed UG/HG freehub body. Something I’ve never tried.

John

Thanks for the cassette answer. I knew it was a SRAM XD body.
As mentioned by several above, a chain whip and FR5 type tool will remove
that for you.

Thanks for all answers. The FR5 arrived yesterday. I was able to remove the cassette very easily. Sweet! Now I'm waiting for the arrival of the new drive train.
