Chain direction
Hi, as I was shopping on ebay for a new chain I noticed 2 things . 1)what's up with a ultegra 6701 chain ? is it the same as a 6700 ??
2) the same chain had a listing with that read- This is the current version of the Ultegra chain (6700). It is directional, so be sure to install it properly on your bike for the best shifting performance. > are these chains directional ????
Also my plan is to run my currant chain to about 2000 miles and then switch to a new chain and run that chain till I need a cassette and chain 4000-5??? miles, do you think this is a good plan ???

Not familiar with the Ultegras, but the 6701 is probably an improved 6700.They do the same for the DuraAce chians. If its directional, it needs to installed with the prescribed side out. The DA is the same. They are machined to match the corresponding model cassettes. In reality, they shift as well either way -- at least I couldn't tell any difference. It's 85% marketing and 15% engineering.
