Klein frameset
Mid 80's Klein Performance frame and fork. I'm guessing '84-ish. Lots of defects like scratches, nicks and fork rust.
ST: 60cm center of BB to center of top tube
TT: 59cm center to center
Rear Spacing: Measures 125.x with my digital calipers
Seat post: Requires 27.4mm post NOT IMCLUDED
Headset: New
BB: Klein proprietary press fit
So....someone goofed the fork threads due their lack of mechanical skills. I used the new headset top cup as a die and reworked the threads. It now threads together nicely. BB is ok....not super smooth but certainly more than rideable. I cleaned and re-greased the bearings. An enterprising person can probably get rid of the fork rust....I didn't put much effort into.
I installed cable sleeve liner things through the down tube to aid the new owner with installation of shift cables. Suntour FD included. Otherwise this F&F is 'as is'
$185 shipped to the Continental U.S. Paypal is jim2527@hotmail.com as 'good/merchandise'

Pedal to the medal
Double rear eyelets and what appears to be rack mounts. What this one made for sport touring? Pretty frame.

It is a cool frame (and just about my size, unfortunately, my bike budget is all spent up). Lots of interesting things going on there. Down tube underside bottle cage mount but not on the seat tube? Aero lever positioning and internal cable routing, but mounts on the frame (not fork) for fenders racks? Really an interesting piece to try to build around and figure out. Is that the BB that's specific to Kleins and you need to have that one?

I used and loved a Klein Performance for 11 years and over 20,000 miles for everything including fast club rides, many centuries, and touring. My adult son is now loving it and enjoys the ride and compliments it receives, especially with the steel fork that replaced the aluminum one on my '92 version. These Chehalis, WA-built frames are very well done, with a spirited feel and better ride than you'd expect from aluminum thanks to the long chainstays. I was always amazed how stable it was at high speed, loaded or not, but that never compromised the nice steering and handling unloaded. I once read that Gary Klein used his Performance for wet or bumpy criterium races so because it handled so well in those conditions.
Mine had more conventional FD mounting, cable routing and bottle mounts, but it would be easy to use add-on mounts like a Zefal Gizmo for the latter. I've heard that the sealed BB bearings were identical to Phil's, and they last forever. @miamijim, what is the BB spindle length?

Oh come on now, I'm trying to talk myself out of it. I have always wanted a Klein, but I have 2-3 too many projects already.

If this were my size I'd be all over it.
