PSA: Misleading eBay ad hiding a fault? Raleigh Professional
Here's one that sold for $512. Came with Campy headset, bottom bracket, front and rear NR derailleurs. Paint and chrome look flawless.
I was following this one because I noted something buried deep in the description:
"This frame is a GORGEOUS piece and is all original. It has been stored for over 25 years. The original paint is beautiful and like new, as are the stickers and chrome. There are maybe one or two tiny tiny nicks in the paint. The Campagnolo components were stored properly in wax paper and are also mint. The fork was not stored properly and has damage to the threads and the main tube got bent. The chrome and paint on the fork has several nicks and scratches also. (This did not happen while attached to the frame.) Frame is serial # A6267. This auction includes the Campagnolo front and rear derailleurs, Campagnolo shifters, and the Campagnolo crank hub pieces as shown."
One might pass over the fork in the numerous photos. I asked for a better picture from the seller, and I was sent this:
If someone on the forum purchased it, I'd either send it back or get the steerer replaced. The fork crown chrome might get torched, but the fork paint would get toasted.

The frame is whapped too.
The top tube has a bow, sometimes the downtube does not get a ripple but the whole tube takes an arc.
Wish I could sell a crashed frame / fork for so much.

Saw that, and was generous in thinking it might just be camera distortion. But, yeah, methinks that bent steerer and top tube have something in common. Perhaps the brakes, cranks, and wheels didn't survive the "improper storage".

Here's the ad.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/RALEIGH-PRO...-/222795029539
I agree, it looks crashed to me... TT & Fork damage.
Years ago, I was riding no-handed. Fork flipped sideways, and over the bars I went. I don't know if that would have been enough to do that damage, I don't think I hurt my frame. But, perhaps something similar.
Probably the reason the bike was partly disassembled, then thrown into storage for decades. Of course, it could be an illusion from bad photography and a fish-eye lens.
It might be close to that in value if it came with the Campy crankset and Campy seatpost, and maybe a few more bits. But, I think some buyer is in for a big surprise, and a battle will soon ensue.

...you don't think it possible that somebody bought it for the component groupset ?
I don't follow the sold prices on e-bay for stuff like this, but I remember them being stupidly high at one point.

It is also all Nuovo Record. If it was first generation Super Record (with the RD similar to NR), and titanium BB, then it could potentially go for $500 even without the crankset and other parts.
I don't see the date code on the NR Rear derailleur. Perhaps a 60's model would go berserk, but I don't think that is the one.
So, no, I think the buyer was probably expecting a good frame with a good partial groupset, and was duped. The upper headset race (cone) may also be rusted, it is hard to tell if it would clean up well.
The frame is probably rideable, but the fork will either need repaired or replaced if it is bent like it looks. Or, if the frame is just slightly bent, it probably would be able to be re-stretched and aligned to its original geometry and would look good and perform well.

I put in first bid on that for parts. I thought the frame was jacked too, although weird that the paint looks so good. That’s one I’m going to keep on my watch list and check the feedback in about a month.

Top tube definitely looks bent. So the anvil that hit that fork must have glanced off the top tube......Fork legs also look bent.
Condition: "frame is near perfect"
Noticed the seller is selling motorcycle parts, I don't see anything else bicycle related. So maybe he was clueless.

Yeah I wonder what the “storage damage” was. Closet next to the iron foundry?

Seller didn't know much about bikes. In the middle of the ad he mentioned that the threads on the steerer were damaged. Turns out it was just filed down for a keyed washer. He also called it the "main tube" on the fork rather than steerer.

Reading through his past feedback and seeing him called a thief would be enough to put me off.
I did see that his account is very old ('98)and he doesn't have many bad feedback, but the thief comment would lead me to think that possibly he just passes on the stuff he's been burned on.

Well, if you mean the Schwinn Circuit, it looks like the grainy old-cell-phone photo could have easily been taken of someone else's bike locked up on the street(?).

So nothing hinky about no Carlton in the middle of the seatube, while the catalog doesn't show it I have a silver and black late 73 ser. A9823 with CC cutouts that has both Carlton decals. The stunning Blue and silver that I aquired from Fairview has them both and is ser. WS400**** denoting workshop built in Dec. 74 so a late 73 and 74 both have them. I think this came with the CC cutouts as the other two ebay examples are earlier 73's and don't have both decals or cutouts.
Here's a link that does the best job of explaining a lot of this,

Hmm, what year is yours? The 1973/74 Pros don't show that decal in the catalog, at least (and this one with an A serial # is from one of those years); same for this one currently on eBay, which claims to be from 1973.

This one may be a better deal, for someone a bit taller...
