I bought some schalbe marathon winters and looked back repeatedly, and every time I thought "yeah studs are waaaaay better than no studs were".

To be fair, studs totally suck on anything that's not ice...

They remain slower but otherwise I haven't found a problem with them. Most of my spring and fall riding is 90% clear and they work fine. Just slower. Marathon winters are nice in that you can add pressure to keep the outer row of studs off the ground when you don't need them.
