Thermal Jacket Snug Fit vs Non-Snug Fit

Hi - I ordered and received the Castelli Espresso 3 Jackets in a size L and as size XL. Each fit, but one is snug (and allows for freedom of movement) and the other is more of a trim fit (not tight to my body, but not too much extra material either). I think I prefer the more snug fit because that is how I like my cycling gear. From a thermal/warmth stand point, will a snug fit do a better job of keeping me warm or should there been room for air flow....

All other things being equal - is there any thermal/warming "performance" advantage to maintaining a more snug fit over a fit that is a bit more roomy?

If it matters, I am 5'8" and 173lbs.

Yes. Snug does a better job trapping warm air near your body, as opposed to letting cool air circulate between it and you.

LG thermal jersey in XXS and XS respectively. The XXS is warmer.

Voler XS thermal jersey. Warmer than XS LG although the fabric is 185gm/m^2 vs. 250gm/m^2

Everyone has a different definition of snug...

It should fit against the skin sugly enough so as not to flap while you are riding. But, also not so tight that it might impede circulation, as that would lead to cold extremeties.

Make sure you try it on with the most layers that you'd be wearing on a really cold ride.
