Well, WANT showed up and kicked NEED right in the gut. Again. But I'm not even mad.
If you're gonna go, go all in. Swapped out the Rival 1 levers for Rival 1 HRD levers, and paired them to Hope RX4-SR 4-piston calipers. They are worth the hassle. Also taught myself to bleed brakes on a bike-- it's pretty easy. The amount of fluid in there is astonishingly small. Like maybe 15mL in the front line. The lever feel is soooooo good. It did also point out that a well-adjusted set of TRP Hy/Rd are superb-- by leaps the best you can do for cable-actuated. I figure I'll pick up another SRAM clutched RD and move the take-offs over the do-it-all bike I put together for my son... who still hasn't ridden it yet. I still hold on to the slimmest of hopes.

Well.
I think I will be off the mountain bike this week. Yay.
I don't think I'll be on the Bianchi this week. Boo.
I've taken @jsigone and @TrojanHorse deeply to heart, and decided on the N+1 approach. Also, on the 'holy crap what just popped up on Craigslist' time. I never see large bikes, and all the bikes I do see are insanely overpriced. But a 2016 Defy 3 at a decent price, with apparently less than 250 miles AND in XL seems like a good plan, and if I hate it I won't be out any money. Might not QUITE be an Infinito, but it's not an X-Cal. It'll also work as a trainer bike over winter since it's rim brakes and so on.
( NO HAM SLICING FOR ME! )
Off I go to snag it this afternoon or evening. Whee!

@expatbrit I'm surprised it took your this long to get a beater roadie. Side not, will the XL be long enough reach? I foresee a 130-140mm stem in my crystal ball 
good note about a beater/back up bike, it makes for a good loaner if you have a tall buddy in town.

Helpfully, I have a 130mm stem on the Ridley. I doubt I broke that in the crash, since the bars tore instead...
And as to a tall buddy? I have my short brother who may visit. He's only about 6'5. Maybe my sis if she comes out, though she's only 6'4 and has longer legs, so a harder fit...

The beach was so nice, good to pay a visit to Torrey Pines before 20 million people flood the sandy coast line tomorrow for the 4th of July

Still. For under $300? A good deal I think. Here’s the pick up photo.
The prior owner was a bit shorter, so the saddle is considerably higher now. I’ll do more to fit it soon!

Well ... humblebrag time ...
Last Feb. 6 I was 313 pounds. After my ride this morning (And you bet your a$$ I weigh myself after my morning ride) I'm down to 279. 34 pounds total, 16 pounds away from my second goal, which means one thing ... I'll be shopping for my own Bianchi in Celeste very soon.
Hopefully I won't have to wait for shipping

Last Feb. 6 I was 313 pounds. After my ride this morning (And you bet your a$$ I weigh myself after my morning ride) I'm down to 279. 34 pounds total, 16 pounds away from my second goal, which means one thing ... I'll be shopping for my own Bianchi in Celeste very soon.
Hopefully I won't have to wait for shipping

Finally @expatbrit listens to the voice(s) of reason! Nice grab! $300 for a road bike? Won't find that out here... 20 year old beaters with no chain go for more than that.
I just wasn't willing to drop much coin when in the Bianchi was repeatedly 'just around the corner'. And when I saw really awful bikes for $500, I couldn't do it -- let alone trying to find a bike in super-lanky size.But really, you should take away me ignoring you, right? I mean... that's what the Brits do?

The original owner was a good 4-5” shorter than me. It may be a little too aggressive, but I’ve not been in a road bike position for 8 months, so the body needs a bit of time!

I think you have long enough arms to make the seat/drop work.
when I got hit, my shoulder took the brunt of it. I went from a 120stem to a 90mm stem flipped as high as possible. It took ALLOT of PT just to ride the bike like that and control the brifters and months on it in gimp mode before I had enough strength to get more aggressive. I was riding my bike and popping half a pain pills after few hours of riding. I hated riding with the pills, mostly because it dropped my HR 10-12 beats, and was effectively slower too.
I still get some shoulder pains after 3-4 hrs of riding in those aggressive fitting, but I like the fit so I deal with it. And used to the pain by now.....it's often offset by the pain in my legs.

Yup ... 61 would be the top end for me ... possibly could get by with a 59 ... would have to ride both and see how they fit ... cannot wait. A Bianchi has been a dream of mine since I was a kid.
