How rad is running into Ben Ko at the supermarket and locking my Crosscheck and kid-trailer up next to his Pista Concept? Pretty ****in rad.
Fixed riders running into each other at mundane locations? Almost like we're a real city.

Posting this here, rather than just emailing it to Ben, so that others can comment if they feel like it.
Went for a ride tonight around town; west from my place in Coronado to Encanto Park, then back east to Fifth Ave and then south to downtown. Did a couple circles of our little burg, thinking about possible locations for the sprints on the 4th.
1. South of downtown, either Jackson (my least favorite), Buchanan (a little better), or Lincoln (the best). Good thing about these streets is that they'd be largely deserted at this time, but occasionally cops hang out doen there. Also, the only bars adjacent to that area are Cooper's Town, Jackson's on 3rd, and (shudder) Coach and Willie's. However, Monroe's and Seamus McCaffrey's are both a short ride away.
2. South of Roosevelt on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd St. This area is a ghost town all the time, and the streets are pretty dang smooth. 3rd St especially is way short on stop signs just south of Roosevelt. We might want to post spotters at some of the cross streets, just to be safe. Other pros include the proximity of the Roosevelt and Carly's.
3. North of Roosevelt, Portland and/or Moreland streets, east of Central. Crackheads abound, but otherwise we'd be absolutely left alone. Condition of the streets is fair, and we could probably have an around-the-block criterium if we wanted. Also close to the Roosevelt and Carly's.
I know I only listed locations east of Central, but what can I say, I'm an East Side boy. Holla.

I don't think proximity to a bar is necessarily a requirement for a good sprint location, I just love hanging out in bars. Plus Carly's at least is an actual restaurant, so you'd be able to attend an after-event booze-a-rama there. My wife and kid are planning on coming to the sprints at least, and I'm betting my kid is a bit younger than you.
That kid can hold liquor better than anyone else in his preschool phonics class.

I was thinking about the area around Carly's. I was going to get in touch with them to let them know about the event as well.
Mike, I need your number again! I got your message, deleted it and realized that I had no idea which missed call was your number. Do you want to head out this week to get a spot on lock for the 4'th? Also we can discuss ride routes.
Anyone else with ideas???

Oh, and by the way, if you want to go out looking for spots this week, tonight is probably best for me. Late, starting out around 9 or so.

Holy crap, that's a big goddamn gear. But the sprint course isn't all that long; you might not even hit the top end of all those 89 inches.
Ew, that sounded gross.

To be competitive... you only need to really top out at 72 or so.... under would actually help you... unless you're leg-pressing like 800+....

How long (distance) will the sprints be? I'm assuming it will be broken into 2 rider heats. Also, is a group ride meaning the entire group rides together, not a race, correct?
