best commute bikes.?

hi all.

loooking to get myself communte bike to go to work(5km one way).and do some little rides in weekend to start then mabe go up frome there.

i am looking at those.

please tell me what you think about them.?

giant tran send lx
trek allant
louis garneau sub zero
opus cervin
norco lrt2 and corsas
milano citta.

thanks a lot guys/gals.

any info or review on those is apprecieted.

They all look like commuters, but the components are low end. Your first ride will cost you a couple hundred(depreciation). Consider a used bike, with better components for half the money. Shop carefully, and you can recoup your investment if you change bikes later.

You can go 5k on any bike. But if you get hooked, and want to go further, you want better than those. 6 months on a used bike will give you a chance to save up money, learn what you want/need. Then you can trade it in, or keep it as a back up. Good luck, and have fun, whatever you decide.

I would also add that the quality of bike should be partly determined by the security level of the parking you have available at work. The lower the security level of available parking/storage at work the worse appearing the bike should be, regardless of how good it actually is.

At 240 pounds you are going to want strong wheels. Lower to low mid range LBS bikes do not usually have the best, or best built, wheels. That is one of the areas where manufacturers try to save money unfortunately.

actualy i was looking more at the 2 on top.

giant tran send and trek allant...and there in special now here at around 460$cdn. not bad.

like a lot the tran send.

i was thinking mabe could get it..keep it that way this year and upgarde some stuff on it as i go..a bit every year.

what you guys think.?

or any more review would be nice.
