I already have a car. Just not a cool car. It's a 93 Volvo 940 Turbo wagon. It does fine for trips and errands, although the big roof rack I have on it is annoyingly loud at speed.
It's not a proper car for a young professional to be taking out on the town. It's a proper car for a bicycle racer though, which is why I like it and plan on keeping it as long as I can.

My former teammate and poster on here, DennisD, said that his neighbors were worried about him when I used to carpool with him to races. My car's exhaust was busted. It drove fine, but was loud as hell.

I'm talking about a bike to commute on...if you need a slipper clutch to commute you are just waiting to become a statistic. If you want to upgrade the SV into a track bike it's easy and relatively cheap...GSXR fork and shock and bingo no more dive and an rear will stay planted. On top of the fact that if you want a bike that you can use as a track bike the SV is a damn good choice. The GS is not.

exactly why it's a better beginner's bike. you can't race it or even try to race it. cheaper too.
for beginners I tend to recommend a cheap bike, since you might be laying it over in some parking lot when you are practicing your circles

Yeah, the insurance on the BMW M3 was kinda ridiculous. Around $900/year for a $1k deductible collision and stuff like that. A 325 would be much more reasonable, but still higher than it should be.
I've only had two incidents, neither was my fault (I got rear ended, and I hit a deer on the interstate at dusk), in my 6 years of driving, but the insurance company still just sees a 21 (almost 22) year old single male, and assumes I'm an idiot.
Stupid deer totalled my 1995 Audi 5-speed. I liked that car, it was in really good condition. Left me without much money to replace it, since I only had liability at the time.

On any other bike besides my ST I would have either been flattened or blown off the road. I hit 95 mph more than once. I don't get it. No Troopers anywhere on that stretch hardly ever. I used to call it the Patakibahn, now I guess it's the Patersonbahn.
I like it.

Three hours on the bike followed by a four mile walk with the wife. Good start to the day.

There was a GS500 racing series in the pacific northwest and they have been used in plenty of other club racing (until suzuki 650s got cheap). Cheap underpowered bikes are great for racing. You learn a lot more on a slow bike. Cheap needs no explanation.

man, I'm bored. They hired me because they needed help, but when I ask for stuff to do nobody has specific stuff right now. It's even worse on Fridays because most people (including myself) work 4x10. I took Wednesday off to watch soccer though, so I'm here to make some money.

Actually, I would probably have been one of the super depressed kids on suicide watch in college then. I love learning about material science and stuff like that for fun. For college, no thanks.
I was fine in math till calc, after that it was a sheetshow.

meh, I dunno. I feel bad getting paid to sit here. Plus, I'd rather be working. You can only ammuse yourself so long on the internet, especially when they block all the good stuff (live sports streams, youtube, porn, flash games).

I only get them once in a great while, thankfully...i start seeing spots, and i immediately take a handful of motrin or whatever, and lay down. This usually nips it in the bud and within an hour im cool. This one didnt get too bad, just lingered. But still ruined my morning.

I did, and i had uncool cars: a 4x4 Nissan pickup and a '71 ElCamino. The ElCamino could have been cool if it'd been restored and customized but mine was in the craptastic pre-restoration state. I did fine date-wise even with the crap cars.
There are a lot women in LA who are into status and conspicuous comsumption (as with where I live now, which is arguably even worse), but there's plenty of women who aren't. No one's going to be attractive to all women. You're a bike racer so that's already a big turn off to a significant percentage who prefer their men softer and less stringy. So what? There's plenty left.
