Specialized BG FIT Session
Scheduled a BG FIT session at my LBS for June 5th. The process takes about 4 hours, and they're charging me $350.00 (before my 10 - 20% discount). I know the total cost could be substantially more if I need a new stem, shoes, etc. Hopefully it won't require too many equipment changes to get me dialed in......Has anyone here gone through the BG FIT fitting?? If so, is it all it's cracked up to be?? I've heard some very good things about it, and I know some of the pro teams are using it to dial in their fit.

Yup, and very happy with the results. Did need a stem and bars.

I got a very thorough fit done for free when I purchased my bike. Took about 45 minutes.
350 sounds crazy, am I missing something?

That strikes e as very very overpriced. A lot of shops will do free or very affordable fit sessions (mine took probably 30 - 45 minutes) knowing they'll make money off of any parts you buy as a result.
But even if you pay for one, > $100 just seems ridiculous.

For $350 you could get a Retul fit.

That price does seem high, but maybe they're doing total video analysis and everything on you. I also recently had the BG fit done and it was a night-and-day difference for me.

Pro fits take longer than that, what you described sound more like a general bike shop fit to make sure you're comfortable on the bike. The $350 price tag is pretty common for pro fits in the NYC shops but they're thorough and involve video analysis. If you shop around and are willing to venture to shops further out you might get a better deal. Keep in mind that there's no guarantee the shop will make money off of parts because savvy consumers will know they can get it online much cheaper.

True. I definitely buy stuff as cheap as I can find it. Except when I just got a free hour of the shop owner's time. I made sure to buy stuff related to the fit there. As I recall, that ended up being ~$200 in handlebar and stem for me, and $150 or so for my Wife.

Without a doubt. There much more thorough fits that could be done. And if it's a multi-hour, maybe multi-day experience with video and all the rest of that, then cool. Still, it seems like lots of money.

I certainly wasn't trying to justify paying over the top for service because most of us are trying to save as much as we can. It really depends on how much and what kind of riding you're planning on doing, and since road bikes aren't designed with comfort as the first priority it's often better to get dialed in by spending some money in fit to spare yourself the trouble of buying improperly fitting bikes in the future.

For $350 they'd have to guaranteed me an extra 50 watts, and they'd have to throw in pedal RAD fit.
My LBS rates:

I got the Quick Fit using Body Scanning CRM for free and was happy with that.

I don't know if this is a standard policy but some shops I know reduce the charge of the fit if you're buying the bike from them.

About right. But, with the gas I would use to get to another shop that offers this fit system, and the fact that this LBS has hooked me up on many occasion, $30 more than some other shop is not enough to go somewhere else. These guys are my riding buddies, and I have no problem with what they're charging me.

I paid $125 - 15% for my BG Fit from my LBS, considering i bought 2 bikes from them and had them do the buildup on the 3rd in a 9 month time span.
Knowing the specs of my first bike they set everything really close on the bike 3 build before i arrived (bike 2 was for my wife) and the whole process took less then 15 minutes. I kid you not.
They learned after the first fit the small changes i made over time, we measured them off my crashed bike (bike 1) I re-calculated the specs to the new frame and matched them with their calculations. When i walked in and hopped on the new bike it felt better then any time i had ever ridden a bike before.
4 rides and 300 miles or so later i haven't changed anything, and it actually fixed the one minor issue i had with saddle soreness over 30 miles.
Hooray for BG Fits!!!!
P.S if you know that you don't take well to KOP please please TELL THEM, i now know i do better with my knee slightly farther forward then KOPS by a few mm and it makes all the difference in the world!

Let's be honest with ourselves, we get ripped off when we buy these discretionary goods & services and a discount doesn't suddenly make it a "deal".
Don't fool yourself. You're still paying almost $300.
Which precedes the other?
