The latest pics of my work in progress on a Frankenbike conversion of a pristine '86 Nishiki Cascade that I picked up recently. More to come.

Just had to share this ... one of the two most amazing autos I've seen while out riding my bike ... a 1924 Alfa P2. Look at the details here. HUGE drum brakes Passenger side exhaust with a heat shield. Sweet boat tail. Tiny little windshield. And best of all ... racing goggles hanging from the dashboard mirror.

This sucker was parked next to a silver 1967 427 Corvette. Beautiful car, but not a P2.

Took the mtb up the gravel FS road to the top of Wayah Bald today. It's a short 4 mile or so climb of around 40 min but the views at the top are worth it. I beat a couple rain showers and managed to stay dry.

^ Ever do that Tramway climb? Oy, that would suck in 120 degree heat!

I got to Palm Springs just as the leaders and peloton were coming up Palm Canyon. Stood on the corner as they turned onto the Tram road. The whole peloton looked like they had run into mud 300 yards up the road. I decided lunch at Sherman's was a better idea than even walking up that hill in that heat.

Here they are:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JP1fGEpKrL0

I dunno about you all, but the harder the climb, the better I like watching them do it. They do so much else so effortlessly, it's nice to see they're human.

Few years ago, some of them got caught unawares (and with the wrong gears) on the 20% Balcom climb and found themselves tacking up the hill.

My fear was that they were going to run over me. I had planted my tripod about two feet to the inside of the line dividing the road way from the turn out. All of the support motorcycles and the early staff support and ride marshals had passed me and waved. Watching them come at me they were all on the highway and to my right. I did not expect the pack to split and for some of them to pass to my left. I was surprised by how smoothly they passed on both sides but I was afraid to move. I didn't want to be the stupid spectator that caused the peloton to crash but the rolled around me like water around a rock.

Thanks, everyone!

That pix is of Benton Crossing Road in the Eastern Sierra. I used a flash so that the "55" sign would reflect and illuminate the way it is there. The picture was taken after sunset, when the sky and pretty much everything else was some shade of blue. Applying a red filter is what gave the light the strange look.

The color version? Pretty ordinary looking!

Many don't know the proper use of filters in B&W photography. It's nice to see someone make good use of a filter.
