Virtual size?
I recently saw an ad for an Orbea for sale and they listed the actual size as 54cm and the virtual size as 58cm. I'm not familiar with this "virtual" sizing. Can anyone explain?

if the frame geometry is different than conventional, they'll use "virtual size". For instance, if the top bar is dropped (like a mixte), the measurements don't apply if you are comparing bikes for sizing.

Without seeing the ad, I can only presume this: With bikes having compact geometry now vs. level top tubes, you must have a "virtual" measurement for the effective top tube length. Some companies will refer to this as "effective top tube" and others "virtual". So, I would imagine that while the seat tube is measured at 54cm it's because it slopes downward from the head tube. So you would have a tall head tube and the "effective" top tube length would be that of a 58cm bike.

Yes, virtual size and effective size are the same thing. EffectiVE seat tube is the measurement along the seat tube from the center of the bottom bracket to the top of the top tube IF THE TOP TUBE WERE HORIZONTAL. That measurement often used for nominal bike sizing. IMO you are looking at what we normally call a size 58 or Large bike.
