For a minute I wasn't sure how I felt about the asymmetry in the bar wrap. Now I've decided I dig it, super cool bike.

Thank you of the kind words, I am very happy with this bicycle.
I am in a frustrating position where I am in between sizes for every frame I have. One size larger would have too much reach and way too high standover (so much so that I would have to lean it over at stop lights), though this size appears too small in other areas. Oh, well... At least I have fun riding it.

Same boat, sailor. Long torso short legs?

Ha ha, precisely... and 'sailor' is apt: It's the curse of being Portuguese when it comes to sizing bikes.
Edit: I should add, I switched out the crankset of the Double Cross with an XD2 at 175mm (and switched to a 42t chainring) which allowed me to lower the saddle a centimeter and improve the fit of the bicycle overall. I also switched to a -17º 80mm stem which probably did little for fit, but a little for looks, in my opinion...

Thank you for the thoughts, @TMonk and @veganbikes
No, I actually toyed with a number of positions for the shifter, though this placement works best being that I am most often on the 'tops'. There is one other position that I might prefer, but that would require one those Paul mounts and a full set of Shimano bar end shifters, and I am not willing to spend that much on what is effectively a 3-speed.

I'm not hugging the stem. My hands are on the humps, just north of the brakes. I can brake with my rings and pinkies and shift with my thumb. It is the perfect place for the maximum leverage and convenience. The only possible better position would be the same place, but on the inside of the bar, like so:
The looks of my shifter are not of the highest priority for me.
