Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Rapha released an indoor collection, maybe a year ago. Yeah, it's a head-scratcher for me.

Take a Sram link in the road, they are easier to seat.

I have to use the pliers with Shimano links.

The explosion of Echelon/Peloton bikes, and training apps like Zwift, has given rise to marketing departments fabricating "indoor cycling" as a thing that is different, and therefore, you must spend money on it.

I'm surprised to hear that folks have had trouble or reservations about the Shimano links - I've been using Park chain pliers recently, but never had a problem previously; hold the brake lever and give the pedal some weight. I would imagine that putting the chain on the granny ring would make it seat with a little less pedal force, but again, hasn't been a problem.

I suppose. My indoor cycling clothing is just bibs and socks, with a short sleeve jersey that comes off after about 10 minutes warmup. I suppose if I were in a spin class I might be more circumspect, of course. Or if I were a woman.

I am still running Ultegra 6701 chains, which do NOT come with a quick link. They come with one (only one, sad!) break-away pin. I suspect a 10s quick link (like KMC) would work with one but that's off-label use.

I'm trying to think back to the Jamis and what I used in ye olde 10 speed days... I know that I used some KMC but I think that I also used SRAM quick links.

I have numerous KMC links in reserve because they've always done me well. Plus, if you're one of those chain-waxxers, ya gotta have em.

Have we ruled out Datlas just buying a new bike? That should have been step number one.

I've been dealing with oil-based lubes with my winter riding on the Haanjo. Ugh. I don't know how anti-waxxers do it.

I've been running KMC chains with quick links exclusively for at least 10 years, and had ONE failure, which I see as my fault - I reused a quick link from an old chain on a new one, because some lowlife so-and-so had stolen the one from the package the new chain came in. Of course, it snapped under load, but I didn't crash or anything - but I DID have to walk back about 50 yards to retrieve my chain. Lesson learned - New chain, new quick link.
