I think the pants should be on. Other than that, negotiable, but I live on the wrong side of the tracks.

Where's the link to that? I like the middle one. Reminds me of my Jr. High folder.

I don't see many (any...yet) all-white bib shorts here but I see a few blue and green ones. I never see a cyclist and thing "oh lord, what is he wearing?" but I also think some super bright guys do it to be seen on the road. All black is more unusual in this intensely sunny area. That would probably make me look twice. The only thing I personally avoid is light-colored shorts (definitely out is all white) and neon-colored shoes. While I prefer light colors to stay cool, I dread having to go into a convenience store or something like that with white shorts. The "best" dressed ones are probably the racers with their team gear.

I actually have three pairs of white bibs, and they are among my favorites. I was walking down the end of the aisle at a convenience store when a lady came around the corner; she looked down at my crotch, didn't say a word, turned right around and walked away briskly .

Good that you mentioned that. The casquette vélo is an essential component of the image-conscious cyclist, but it is one that you must get right. Luckily, it is not too hard: Match the color to your jersey's color. A contrasting stripe is ok too and adds a bit of flair. If you're new in the field just stick to that and you'll never go wrong, but after a few years you might want to get more adventurous and show that you have panache. At that point you might want to try a statement casquette. Be wary though, if you get it wrong you will just give the impression of having no style. A multi-color vintage casquette is a somewhat safe way to dip your toes so to speak, but here it's all about expression of individuality, so the sky's the limit really.

I was on a small team a few years ago and our main sponsor was a pizza place with a very cool black and white logo. We went with a white jersey with black logos. Still one of my favorite jerseys and I still wear it from time to time even though the zipper broke and need a couple of safety pins to keep it closed. On the other hand, the white shorts? Oy.

I'm not totally convinced. After learning of my 1/2" leg difference and re-starting life with lifts and shims, it's like "wow! I didn't know life could be this good." If I had differences between my feet that large, suffering knowingly as I did in ignorance for so many years just to please my fellow cyclists? Uhn uhn. (Both shoes would be black, but then that's really the only "right" color if you came of age when I did. )

And, yeah, I'm with you on the white shorts.

Are you pulling your mtb in a trailer behind your road bike? Are you riding to pick up your mtb? Those are the only situations in which this would be appropriate.

The only critical item is ensuring that the relaxation beer bottle or can colors don't clash with your kit. All else is irrelevant.
