White Plains 35/45
Since we had the same numbers, the whole 2 races in one thing was nullified. Got to race with YMCA, which was really nice.
Fast hard .5 mile crit with a couple of bumps. Last few laps were pretty off the chain, and I got too near a few danger scenarios on the the last lap to win. Took third, second 45+. All in all better than a sharp stick in the eye.

Loved that course. Bumpy, aggressive racing with plenty of room for outs.

Tulsa Tough, Crybaby Hill crit, 40+ 3/4. 1st of 25.
Thunderstorms and heavy rain so only half the field showed up. The hill itself is kind of no big deal, it's steep but it's only about 20 pedal strokes. The more defining feature of the course is "crash corner", a 120 degree turn off a descent onto the finishing straight, with a couple of manhole covers right in the middle of the corner.
After the first couple of laps it was clear there was only one other guy who wasn't gasping at the top of the hill, and I was happy to see that he had no idea how to take the fast corner. Not to sound harsh, but literally everybody else was taking just the most terrible, timid lines through that corner. So I just waited for Mr. strong-can't-corner to attack, which he did with 2 to go. It was the two of us for a lap, then I left him behind on the fast corner and that was that. The field was 8 seconds back.
Plus it was the first time my wife has ever watched me race, so that was fun! She was very enthusiastic.

Thanks guys Gotta represent the Northeast! Take that, Team Wal-Mart!
Next year I am definitely coming back and racing all weekend. What an incredible scene.
This was the pro race last night. Holloway was just killing everybody over and over, then he crashed himself out in the sprint.

I got a rib binder and wore that pretty much 24 hours a day and i would slip a big bag ice underneath when i got home....that was the most helpful thing. and some advils before i went to bed. the rib binder....way more helpful that i thought it would be.

out walking the earth
I've broken ribs on a number of occasions, including last year. Not fun. Hang in there.

ribs are a frustrating injury. i subluxed a rib at the start of the year beginning of the year being a dummy at the end of a race. it was 6 weeks before i was 100%. i did race on it two weeks later (not well) and just rode through the final four weeks. the riding wasnt terrible....though i was nothing more than pack fill. it was getting out of the car, getting the trainer out of the car, getting in and out of bed, sneezing, coughing that was the worst part. I couldnt sleep lying down for a month because the pressure of my body against the bed on the ribs was too much.
I got a rib binder and wore that pretty much 24 hours a day and i would slip a big bag ice underneath when i got home....that was the most helpful thing. and some advils before i went to bed. the rib binder....way more helpful that i thought it would be.

P12 is still where it's at, but at 49 and you're 57, it's hard to just get by on our looks.

US Air Force Classic, Clarendon Cup. I've never finished this race, it's been too hard for me. I was in it to win it this morning, going well, and with 7 to go guy in front of me took a really poor line through a tricky corner, at it, and there was nothing I could do but hit him. Left ribs took a direct hit on the pavement and I lost some skin on my elbow. Not sure if ribs are bruised or broken, but sitting here a few hours later, they hurt. Doubtful for the Crystal Cup, which is tomorrow. I usually dont get too pissed at these things, it's part of racing, but this one has me really angry. I still havent finished Clarendon Cup. :-/

SJBC training crit, A's group.
3rd. Gifted the win to some masters guys.
Got there a few minutes late, the A's had already rolled out. Paid my $15 and the organizer guy said I could jump in, so I did. One guy scoffed as I got in, since I was a lap down.. plus he was probably sad to see me show up!
Attacks were having a harder time sticking, but eventually me, a strong guy, and two masters guys got away. Strong guy flatted out of our break.
With two laps to go and our gap big enough that we were staying away, I told the two other masters guys I wasn't gonna sprint. Didn't feel right given I was a lap down, plus it didn't matter..
Funny thing was when I told one guy I wasn't sprinting he thought that meant it was time to sprint, so he put his head down and did his best dragon slayer scream, sprinting with all his might for the line. He did the same yelling thing on the real sprint. It was kind of cute.

hey--nice work globe.
MD, so sorry to hear. hope the R&R at the beach takes the sting out of those wounds. ribs, broken or bruised, are no fun.
