I'll be hanging out with the grooviest, cool-talking kids in Utah, June 9-12 (I think, but the dates aren't set exactly yet) and it would be an outtasight thing if I could borrow someone's bike for general purpose touristy cycling and killing time around town.

Anyone have a loaner-grade bike in the 60 - 62cm range I could take out a for a couple days? Doesn't have to be vintage; and I can bring my own flat pedals if you don't have any. I'll be staying in South Salt Lake near Nibley Park GC, but I'll have my daughter's Little Deuce Coupe available to pick up and drop off anywhere in the metro area.

Mr Caveman, I think I may have something that would work! I have sold a few lately so i don't have as many options, but if a trek 930 with albatross bars, thumbies, and Big Apples could work, shoot me a pm.

Sounds like you'll be in town during the prettiest time of the year; I'd recommend riding Millcreek Canyon if you have the chance

And, I'd offer to loan you one of my rides (I'm in northern Utah for the next couple of months), but they're much too small; for you they'd be sorta like riding a clown-bike!

The above-mentioned advice, re: KSL.com is good; the locals use it (rather than CL) for bike listings, if you're looking to buy a disposable bike for a few days. That said, they do have a more-or-less functional bike rental system in downtown SLC, and Guthrie's is the place to start for LBSs. Salt Lake Bike Collective has a good word-of-mouth rep, but never having been there, I personally can't vouch for them.

Wasatch Touring & Contender are both good, but last time I dropped by either one (admittedly this was a decade ago, so things might have changed since then), they were the kind of shops were you wouldn't get the time of day unless you were riding the TDF or the SOC.

I will do that! I've always wanted to try out albatross bars. They look kinda funny to me, but I know they have their fans.

Any other Utahans want to show of their stuff feel free to chime in, I'll be happy to sample a variety of the local goodies.

@DIMcyclist, thx for the tips. Anyone else want to tell me where to ride, I'm all ears.

@wrk101, I'm trying not to buy another bike, but if I find one that I can't resist, I'm going to do just that.

If you want a more serious (road) ride than Millcreek (which is very pretty for its wildflowers, and great for off-road), I'd recommend Immigration Canyon. It's about a 12 mile climb to the top, then a fantastic descent down the back over a stretch that's like a mini version of the Stelvio, and Ruth's diner, near the base of the canyon, is a famous local go-to for breakfast.

Back in college, my friends & I would occasionally ride Immigration-- and often be smoked by Dave Zabriskie & his buddies while they were out doing wind sprints (Zabriskie was a few years behind us at the U of U, and he trained here, in the canyons). They'd usually pass us two or three times, up & back, before any of us made it to the top. Then we saw that they were going all the way down the back before they'd turn around & do it again. Ouch!!

Edit: I'd also recommend the Big & Little Cottonwood canyons; they're stunningly alpine. You can ride Big Cottonwood, but Little Cottonwood is too narrow for cycling, with a lot of blind corners & sheer drop-offs; on a bike, you'd pretty much be asking for an accident there; however it's really one of the most beautiful places around SLC.
