I currently own a 2-Speed Brompton and love the simplicity. My question is, who went with a Brompton 6-Speed instead of a 2-Speed and what were the reasons why? Do you regret not going for the 2-Speed? Would you buy the 6-speed again? Have you ever tried a 2-Speed? What did you like about the 2-Speed? What didn’t you like about the 2-Speed?

I bought a 6-speed even though where I live the terrain is flat. I got the 6-speed because at the time I traveled. Later I bought a used 2-speed rear wheel. I went with that because I retired and travel less. I was only using the mid gears as a 6-speed. I liked the simplicity of the two speed. I later added a Bikegang 2-speed to 3-speed kit. When you have a rear flat changing the tire is easier. It weighs a little less and may feel a little faster.

I bought the six speed because I live in the NW with a lot of hills and plan on traveling to places with hills. The two or three speed wasn't even considered.

Love the 2 speed. S2L 2017. I find the - to + a bit of a jump. Served me well for 2 years until I bought an 2018 M6Lx. Now my bones and muscle doesn't hurt anymore after hours of riding. The gears helps a lot.

I swapped my S2L recently for a fire lacquer 2019 M6L. The finish is amazing in person.

I also really like the beautiful fire lacquer finish but couldn’t justify the extra $330 price just to be pretty. Yes I’m a cheap date.

I just got got back from my trip and was really glad I got the six speed Brompton and the B&W hard travelers case. They both worked brilliantly!

6 speed. Even though I don't have hills, the wider gear range is really useful against wind.

I've bought and sold 4 Bromptons so far.
Have tried 2, 3 and 6 speeds. My only Brompton
right now has 6 speeds. I travel a bit; and the 6 speed
helps when I visit a hilly city/town(Virginia, Japan, etc.)

I have a 177% ratio 3 speed wheel and a 1 speed, currently a two with 12/17 sprockets. I also have a BCD 110 crank with a 38 and a 58 chainring for manual shifting. This gives me a range of 77/54 with the 58 and 50/36 with the 38. Grades of 5% or so are good with the 54 unless there is a headwind. This whole setup is several pounds lighter than the SA hub without the extra chain ring, although the RF3 hub plus the 58/38 does give much higher gear inches. Once the 2 speed gear pusher was set up right it has worked very well, BTW. I've tried tried adding a 28 tooth chain ring which worked fine except for folding when the chain ring and chainstay collided.
