Evidently, a lot of races were won on those bikes. When it comes to all day riders I think it is hard to beat a 60's-70s European bike from a decent company. Because that's what they were made to do, go all day over those crappy roads. I also think a lot of those bikes are overlooked because of their utiliarian nature/purpose. The attention to detail may not be there, but the attention to the ride certainly was. Take the lowly U-08 or most of the low offerings from the reputable French companies. They might be heavier, but they still provide great rides. You could argue that these are the best class of bicycles that were made because there is more bang for the buck. I have a 72 Lejeune TDF. Lower level Lejeune. No name tubing and no derailleur hanger. Yet with Stronglight BB and headset only weighs .15 of a lb more than the 531 Crescent With Campy NR BB/headset. Throw on a Stronglight crank and that weight difference is gone. I also have a 87 Ironman(Tange 1) and a 85 Miyata 912(Miyata splined TB), which accordingly to a lot of people are some very nice frames. The Crescent frame/fork/BB/Headset only weighs .37lb more than those frame/fork/BB/headset combos. So the Lejeune is only about a 1/2lb behind them as well. If I am on a timed ride I will usually be on the IM or the 912 because they are a little stiffer. But if it is a all day/multi-day/century type of ride I will always be on the Lejeune or Crescent unless I am testing a new bike I have acquired. They both have high flange hubs and I just like the ride better.
I really loved those Crescents back when, Seypat. Almost bought one, just because of the color and the black & white checker board…but ended up buying a PX-10 instead.

See if this works. It's not that clear after all of the resizing. Black Cyclone first generation(long cage GT RD). Takagi crank and Pelissier pro hubs.

I know, I know, it's a Varsity but it was given to me and I couldn't resist. It started life as a crusty Sierra brown lump and I transformed it into a bright orange lump. It is 45 years old and is four years the successor to my first "real" bike, a '66 Varsity. I made a few changes to make it less offensive to those who hate the Varsity.

1980 Union Sakai
After an orange Vespa scooter, motorcycle and two orange cars, it was time for me to get an orange bike... This thread inspired me when restoring my Union Sakai from 1980 so I registered to the forum to show my end result

Sorry, don't have any finished pics and don't have any taken with a decent camera either. Early-'70s transitional Nishiki Olympiad (not Olympic) with American Eagle manufacturing sticker on the seat tube.

This is a custom bike from a small local builder, built in 1989, so semi-classic?? It's fillet brazed, which is kinda fun and different from other stuff of the era. Nowadays it just resembles the flowing lines of a carbon fiber bike.
The paint is about 7 years old and chosen to try to match a similar color used by Waterford.

No longer orange but i rode it in this color for a few years. It was stolen while painted orange and i saw it in the front window of a pawn shop. I don't think i would have noticed it in its current color.
Second photo is the same bike in the improved paint scheme

Ah! Another thread to show off my orange bikes. And it seems to be orange-bikes-from-the-Netherlands day as well.
This one's been in some other threads, but still one of my favorites, so here we go. A still not identified Dutch or Belgian frame.
A late seventies Giovanni. A Belgian frame, made for a Dutch brand. Has a thread of its own.
One of my first 'nice' bikes: a Koga-Miyata GentsLuxe-S:
Gazelle Champion Mondial, with Suntour Superbe. Pictured as bought, as it's still in the project queue somewhere ...
A Fongers-RIH, from back when I was still finding out about bike sizing:
And this Sprinter. Not much info on it. A much nicer bike than the pic would have you believe. Probably a Belgian frame, branded by a Dutch shop in the late seventies.

Bump for Halloween!
This Masi is not mine (or I'd have turned it drive-side out!), but it sure is nice. It belongs to the friendly owner of American Cyclery in SF, with whom I tagged along during the last Eroica CA when this photo was taken.

I obviously need to go ride this by some pumpkins, but for now, here's an interior shot.

My 1988 Trek 400 (originally blue, now Prismatic Illusion Orange PC). Great rider with Tri-Color hubs and shifty bits that came together without a hitch; everything works as it should - unusual for one of my builds. It's already on a couple other "show us your orange bike" threads. There are, like 4 or 5 of them
