1962 Schwinn Typhoon
So I picked this bike up today for free as the owner was going to toss it out because it needed work. All it truly needs is a deep cleaning and a new chain. Other than that, it's in great shape given its age. It looks to have been purchased in Oklahoma city and used by a student at Oklahoma State university given the registration plate and college tag. It also looks like the saleat and handlebars are not original but are still vintage schwinn components. Single speed coaster fun!
Serial number confirms it is a 1962 which we the first year run of this model from what I can tell, and the only year they did twin straight tubes that turned in to the seat stays. Curious about the value of this bike. I think it's just a cool old bike

GREAT FIND !!!!
And the price was right !!!!!
Not sure of the value. It depends on location and if the bike is in running condition. These bikes are tanks and , like you said, needs just a little work to be up and running.
Maybe $ 100- 150.00

Ditch the ape hanger (butterfly) bars.
This was near the end for the straight extended seat stays.
Would only be better in Black. Do leave the paint alone aside from polishing it up.
The fender can be massaged out, you need a leather lead shot filled bag as the back up for working out the dents.

As an update, I cleaned it up, lubed it up, and made the chrome parts shine and it sold for $350. Just a reference and closure for those looking.

Not a bit surprised that you got $350 for it. Straight-bar Schwinns are neat!
