Chilly day with headwinds for a good portion of the ride. Legs were done the last 5 miles, but at least last week's long ride distance seemed "easy."

Well, the saga with my eye continues. Came home last Sunday afternoon and noticed two good size black spots in my vision. Went in to see the specialist early Monday, and sure enough there was a detachment in another part of the retina. This is apparently fairly unusual but not unheard of. Got surgery again last Tuesday morning. This time they went all the way around the retina with the laser so hopefully this won't happen again. They went with silicon oil again instead of the gas bubble because the surgeon feels like the oil holds the retina in place better as it heals. So another surgery still in my future to remove the oil.

All three of the doctors I've spoken to don't see any issue with road riding, but my vision in that eye is bad enough that it's going to take another week or more before I'm comfortable riding on the road. So, I'm on Zwift for now. I don't think I'll make my goal for the month. This has been quite an unpleasant year so far.

Skipped yesterday, even though it was a nice evening. After yard work that needed to be done , there was no way I could ride.
So, today the weather was better and I took off for town and back . When I add the side streets it turns into a nice ride .
Going fishing tomorrow, so I’ll probably miss tomorrow too .

As most of you know , I’ve had knee issues off and on for the last couple of years .
I’ve been trying all sorts of things trying to help .
This week I ordered a pair of biking shoes made for platform pedals . A pair of Five Ten shoes .
I’ve ridden twice wearing these shoes and I believe they are helping .
Before I’d ride in my Keen hiking sandals or some soft hiking shoes .
the flat rubbery soles on the Five Tens keep my feet set on the pedals .

I also bought a pair of Five Tens earlier this spring, the Freerider model. My first dedicated cycling shoe. I like them too, very comfortable. I like the rigid sole (compared to my sneakers) and the pins on the pedals don't bite as deeply.

Hope they keep working for you.

Good grief. I committed to this when April seemed like it might be nice. What a mistake that turned out to be. Today’s ride was a miserable necessity - all headwind and cold. Let's hope May is better…

I got a pair of 5-10's last year when I was doing rehab for my broken leg. I liked using them at rehab, they are a bit narrower than my cross trainers and fit on the rehab bike pedals better. I also like having a bike shoe with a stiff sole for cycling. I used these shoes when I started riding again and was using platform pedals. Get well soon.
