09/02 - 26.36 (PR distance), 1:50.37 (PR time ridden in one ride), 14.3mph avg, 2:00 fastest mile (PRindividual mile). About 65F at start, 77F at finish. Weekly weigh-in after ride: 203.2#.
09/04 - 26.31, 1:54.19, 2:05 fastest mile (coming back down the canyon). Canyon climb - painfully slow.
09/05 - 2.14. My puny commuting round trip distance. Many days, it’s faster to cycle than to drive.
09/06 - 14.33 - includes workout miles before work, plus commute.
09/07 - 19.07 - includes workout miles before work, commute to work and then the district office and back, and then home.
09/08 - 12.25, 45:53 rolling time, 16mph avg
09/09 - 30.24: distance PR. 2:35.15 rolling time: time in the saddle PR (and yes, I am chafed a bit). Max speed (downhill from canyon pavement dead-end): 37mph - downhill speed PR. Fastest mile: 1’49” - mile PR.
09/11 - 12.19, 46.53, 15.6 mph. Put Specialized saddle back on - the one I used Saturday is a no-go: too wide on the tongue, not enough of a channel. Played with the angle and position on this ride. It’s okay, but kind of hard.
09/12 - cross training, no miles
09/13 - 12.19, 45:40, 16mph avg
09/14 - 11.2: 8.35 tempo workout, 2.31 commuting.
09/15 - 9.36, 33.25, 16.8mph
09/16 - 22.04, 1:23.08, 15.9mph - on a trip to the LA area, rode from my hotel out to the Pacific Coast Highway and a few miles on it. Lots of water, which is nice to see for a desert dweller.
09/19 - 11.84, 43:09, 16.4mph
09/20 - 6.75, 25:20, 16mph
09/21 - 12.08, 45:40, 15.9mph
09/22 - 12.11 43:06, 16.9mph - PR average pace for this route/distance.
09/23 - 32.66, 2:17.38, 14.2mph avg pace. Rode to old Tombstone - 1800’ elevation change each way. About mile 16 when I stopped and bought a soda (which I am never doing again mid-ride), the shopkeeper thought I was nuts. About mile 26, I decided I had lost my senses. About mile 28, I had to stop again and dump the remainder of my plain water over my head and torso because I was no longer sweating enough, in spite of constantly sipping electrolyte mixed water.

Was really glad to get home. PR distance. Slower than I wanted to be, but still much faster than my last 30+ mile ride. Charity 44 mile ride I have scheduled for 7 October is looking more intimidating than I expected at this point. Of course, I won’t play tennis that morning, like I did today before I went for my ride.

Sept MTD: 270.44

Sept goal: 300

9/1/2023: 20 miles, 1:23 time, 14.3 mph average pace

9/2/2023: 50 miles, 3:48 time, 13.1 mph average pace

9/3/2023: 10 miles, active recovery ride on an ebike, so time/pace is irrelevant

9/4/2023: 33.3 miles, pace unknown, forgot to hit 'resume' on Strava after pausing at a stoplight. Oops. If it wasn't recorded, did it happen?

9/7/2023: 22.6 miles, 20 miles at 16.4 mph average pace, then 2.6 miles cooldown. Fastest 20 miles I've managed ever. Could not have gone faster but could have maintained the pace for longer. Missed the last two days due to my daughter being in the hospital.

9/9/2023: 100.0 miles at 13.6 mph average pace. Read it and weep. This is my first century. Lots of learnings that I'll post about in a separate post. I'm pretty sure my soul left my body in the last 15 miles. Not bad for a 300 lb fat guy.

9/13/2023: 22.7 miles at 16.8 mph average pace. New 20 mile average pace record for me. Had to take the past couple days off because of work travel. Hoping to rack up some big miles here in a bit.

9/15/2023: 31.3 miles at 12.4 mph average pace. Between it being dark and on a unfamiliar route this turned into more of a Zone 2 workout than planned, but that's okay.

9/18/2023: 12.6 miles at an unknown pace, was just a pleasure ride with the kid

9/19/2023: 8 miles at 16.8 mph pace. "I won't need this flat kit" he thought. Narrator "he would in fact need it". Oops. Had to make the call of shame when I got a flat and it cut my ride short.

9/21/2023: 22.5 miles. Tried going for a new 20 mile pace record but then it started raining on me and got dark, so I ended up only at 14.8 mph average pace. There's no such thing as bad weather, just bad gear and I have bad gear.

9/24/2023: 11.2 miles. Relaxed ride with the kids. Gotta start putting in some miles if I'm going to hit my goal, which I'm determined to do.

MTD: 344.5 miles

Goal: 500

In September I'm riding for the Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for the Children's Cancer Research Fund.

9/25/2023: 22.4 miles at 14.4 mph pace. I'm finding that I'm beginning to slow down and my joints are beginning to hurt. I only did 125 miles in August, so this is a huge jump for me and I think I'm pushing myself a smidge too hard considering I only started cycling in July. I'll probably take next week off, but I'm determined to hit my 500 mile goal for the month of September.

MTD: 366.8 miles

Goal: 500

In September I'm riding for the Great Cycle Challenge to raise money for the Children's Cancer Research Fund.

09/26 - 12.12, 44:51, 16.2mph avg pace, 29.8mph max. Didn’t sleep well, thought the ride would wake me up and I’d feel better. Felt worse. Took COVID test. Positive. Stuck home from work till next Monday. First positive ‘Rona test I’ve had, so there’s that. Had all the vaccinations and boosters, so hopefully this goes like the cold/flu it feels like right now.

Sept MTD: 284.66

Sept goal: 300 - might not make the goal.

09/25 - 2.1 - bike commute today. Played tennis after work.
09/29 - 5.0. Slowly. Chills, fever, body aches are gone. Snot machine has large gone, and coughing and sore throat as well. Largely just a headache and general weakness. Decided to get out and take a gentle neighborhood spin to see if the saddle adjustment I did yesterday is correct, and to see if I am just fooling myself about feeling better. Was okay. Will have to wait for a somewhat longer ride to decide about the saddle.

Sept MTD: 289.66

Sept goal: 300 - If I can ride at all tomorrow, I should be able to meet or exceed the goal.

Really proud of myself, if that's okay to admit, that I was able to hit my goal. It wasn't easy, but riding for a purpose made all the difference. It was also my first time posting miles in this forum and I'll be honest, it added a certain level of accountability that I really liked. Good luck to everyone else in finishing out the month strong.

Felt pretty strong this morning. I might have another 39.4 miles in me this afternoon. We’ll see.

Edited to say: Better to get em while it’s cooler. Had just enough time to get 20 more. Just need 19 more tonight.

Edited again to say: Got it!

congrats to those who met or came close to their goals. Some nice mileages put in.

Sept was not a great month. I was off the bike from my last ride on Aug 25 until Sept 18th per the dr's orders and the fact that i could not have ridden even if i wanted to.
I did end up with 262 miles this month.

This September I rode twenty days for a total of 70.8 miles .
Most was on one of my single speed bikes
I fell short of my goal of a hundred, but there’s October.
Hopefully I can get an earlier start this month.
The knees still bother me but it’s tolerable for now .
Congrats to all of you who made or exceeded your goal.
Congrats to all who didn’t meet their goal also , at least you were out there giving it a shot.

Felt okay but not great this morning, but am more energetic now. Since my wife is sick now, too, I may let it go. If I do go out to finish my 300, it will be after the sun goes down and it starts to cool off.

Otherwise, it’s still a PR month, so there’s that.

edit:

Well, I went and did it, late this afternoon. Good idea or bad.

11.8 miles + 289.66 = 301.46

Goal met.
