Place for kids to ride on the upper east side
It looks like we might be moving to NYC for a year, based around 65th and 1st Ave. I have a 7-year old on a BMX and a 3-year old on a balance bike. Anyone know of a good location to take them where they will be out of the way of others and able to just ride loops for an hour or so in the afternoons?

Manhattan already has plenty of bike lanes. Broadway, East and West End are very good for biking. The East End is the closest place for you to take your kids. However if you are looking for a quiet place, out of the noise and traffic try Central park - north of 72nd street.

East Side Greenway is close to where you'll be. Not great for an adult rider, but should be good for kids.
Added - Roosevelt Island is a nice, low traffic area. Very pretty loop with interesting architecture and great vies of the river ant the city. Easier to get to from the bridge on the Queens side, but I think bikes are permitted on the tram from 59th street.

Randall's Island is accessible from the 103 St footbridge. There's lots of riding there. But for a 7 & 3 year old I'd stick with the East Side Greenway as it is close.
