Chrome Norco road bike ?? anyone have any thoughts ??

Here is the story :
I go to my local bike shop and in the back there is a old road bike frame waiting to be thrown out . i go and check it out for the parts and the paint is all chipping and from i can see it is all chrome under the paint . so i ask how much for the frame and parts and I buy it for 15.00$ i take it home and it has Suntour Cyclone Gt rear and front deraillers and in great shape . so i take my screw driver and scrape the paint and it flakes off like nothing . so 3 hours later i have a complete chrome bike . the bike was a Norco Magnum GT . it looks much nicer in chrome . the Rear Dropouts are stamped ( SUNTOUER GT III) and the front (TANGE ) here are some pics aif anyone can give me more info on this bike that would be great .

Cantis + aero mount down tube shifters? Quite a mix there. But I love the bike. Looks like it has tall if not wide clearances for touring tires, as well as longer chainstays and relaxed geometry.

Wasn't Norco a Canadian brand?

What size (diameter) seatpost?

Shifters and brakes point to it being an early 80's model (83-84) and Norco distributed road bikes and did not make them so this is probably a re-branded Nishiki.

Those shifters came with the derailleurs and are Suntour Symetrics... they have a little cam inside that automatically trims the front derailleur when you shift the rear.

Now there's something I'd love to see a reproduction of... I gotta root through the bins at the co-op and see if there are any kicking around... such a good idea.

My wife's Norco Magnum SE looks like its all chrome under the black paint as well....usually chrome that is painted over isn't done very well but yours looks quite stunning....is it nice really close up?

Nice to have such a nice finish under the Norco's paint... and Randy... I love that red tape on the Tornado.

Just picked up a chrome Garlatti and have yet to refinish the bars... was looking at cloth and shellac and red might be the way to go.

Just found this post. Exactly what I was wondering. Owner of a mid-80's Norco Magnum S7 (very similar, if not the same, as the Sekai Magnum S7), which is basically the touring version of the Magnum GT. I purchased mine new about 30 years ago, and you got a steal for $15! If I recall, it was about $800-$900 ... many months/year of paper-route money.

Anyways, I was wondering if the shiny chrome was throughout the bike, so you helped answer my question. If it's not too much trouble, would love to see the bike after it was built up. Also, would you have done anything differently? I am considering stripping the paint as well.

Thanks.

Nice find and I did not know that they came in all chrome. I loved the old Norco Magnum GT that I had, and have had a couple more pass through The Old Shed...
