Yes, but it's been above freezing pretty much every day and the weather has been awesome, so with layering you don't really notice the cold. The only thing I can't figure out is how to consistently keep my toes warm. Wool, plastic bags, hand warmers, booties, nothing seems to work 100%.

Closed out the first week of heat adaptation roller training. Basic idea is, wear a baselayer and go ride the rollers/trainer in zone 2 with no fan on. Key is to ride by HR zone, not power zone. At this early stage, this is basically a machine that produces extreme power and heart rate decoupling. I ended 2 hours yesterday with over 20% decoupling. Bonkers.

Winter boots. My Shimano boots have probably given me more value than any other single piece of cycling equipment. They are heavy of course, but that just increases the training effect.

I rode the spin bike on Saturday for an hour before I took off for the long flight home. I thought I'd spin a bit when I got home. I did, for about 3 minutes when I called off the jam. I was tired, and the ride would have done nothing helpful. Rest day was nice. Put in a good hour on the trainer today. I kept it under control, but, it was fun to think about putting down some power. That day is coming. As it is said, patience!

I think about the few times ive raced in the heat and think this sounds like a "good" idea.
But then I realize eff that. I would rather open the window and have the fan on full.

last week before a rest week. 1:45 on the rollers, 4*10'. wasn't sure how i was going to feel after failing my workout on sunday then spending all day in the car yesterday, but I actually felt really good on the bike.
think i'm going to try to make this "ride every day" thing last for 100 days. seems like a nice round number. today was day 11.

I haven't ridden since Sat and not much in the previous week, my wife had her gallbladder removed so I've been on caretaker duty, plus my usual parental duties. By the time everyone is settled and in bed, it's 9:30-10pm and I'm usually wiped out by then to do anything of any value. Such is life

Got a good training plan that we can follow down on paper. Hour in Z2 last night on new Kickrs. They're pretty fly.

Plan: 3 hours on cross bikes with teammates. Reality: school closing early due to snow. 2x20 on the trainer again. That's 4 trainer sessions in 2 weeks. I'm going to lose my rep.

Solid 2x30'. Beautiful weather here this morning but apparently it's going to pour tomorrow, so it makes for a good gym day.

Someone decided to vandalize my car over the weekend so I had to get the back window fixed this morning. Rode to work when it was 27 degrees. My face and hands were really cold, but overall it wasn't too bad. I just went to pick up the car and it was 37 degrees which is a massive difference. I never used to ride outside below 40, now I may take that down to 37

It's not THAT bad, really. So long as you aren't trying to maintain power (that's not what this work is for), it's not hugely more uncomfortable than normal indoor training.
Heh. Thing is, there's evidence that training with a slightly elevated core temp actually has benefits. Hypoxic training and ice baths are not well-supported.
edit: my own inclination was to think this stuff was B.S. But one of the things I am doing this year in my training is subsuming my own know-it-all ego and doing what my coach tells me to do. He's a smart guy and doesn't make things up based on pseudoscience or trends or misunderstandings of physiology. So I'm happy to give these things a shot.
