My wife was from Atmore. There are some nice places to ride around there.

What's up gang. Still not able to resume riding. I finally got a report on a 3-week old MRI (job change = insurance change at a bad time = big PITA in dealing with ongoing injuries). Not 100%, but turns out they think I probably have a hip fracture. Superior acetabulum i.e. hip socket. ER X-rays totally missed this, and this is now 9 weeks out and it SHOULD be well on the way to healing. It's a non-displaced fracture, too, which is good. But not knowing I was walking around with a broken hip could mean weeks of mismanagement of the injury have slowed my recovery. Oh well. Now comes follow-ups, orthopedics appointments, hopefully a more solid diagnosis, physical therapy... the works.
The nice thing is I can tell people how I broke my hip and was totally walking without crutches a week later. #bamf

Down by Spanish Fort/Daphne there seems to be more civilization, I even saw some actual roadies at a gas station! A guy walked up and said they looked like aliens, then asked if they were pro.
I never got around to buying a bike down here, or getting mine shipped, so I've resorted to running. It's on a little two lane road with no shoulder (at all), but really minimal traffic.

IIRC, I rode with some folks I found via Google search around Bay Minette, south from there paralleling US 31 and winding through the woods in that area. It was pretty nice.

Whatever was going around the office seems to have finally hit me. Left work early yesterday, still feel kind of bad today.
It may be coincidence..but this is 3rd time in as many years where I have gotten sick at the end of a training block..

Heh, thanks. Didn't think anyone would. I can type, but I've been mostly staying away from internet bike discussion for the sake of my own sanity.
The good news is I had my first PT appointment this morning, and she thinks with some work I ought to be able to resume riding within 4-6 weeks. Not straight from there to full-on racing/training, most likely, but I'll get there. She thinks I might well have strained my labrum a bit in the crash and that's taking some time to get better, but thinks it's not as irritated as a full-blown tear would be. I'll have to see what the sports physician and orthopedist I'll be seeing in the next couple of weeks have to say about all that, but I didn't mind a little bit of optimism.

So, a bunch of us are doing a recon ride of the whole Rouge-Roubaix course this Saturday, 107 miles. The course starts out north and circles back to the south about halfway. Predicted weather indicates NE wind at the start and swinging around to the south about three hours in, so we'll effectively have a headwind the whole ride. Gotta love it!

Too bad you can't just ride it backward (maybe with a gopro facing backward that you later watch in reverse ).

When it rains it pours, right? Pretty disorienting going from on top of the world to wondering what the hell you did wrong. It'll work out; likely worst case scenario is I get my old job back in a few weeks and try this again in a year or so. But it's a real blow to the ego, and even a temporary loss of pay sucks a lot.

I just got back to work after 10 months out. I made the final cut for six opportunities only to be rejected. It's hard to put into words what this does to your brain. Hang in and focus on job search and PT. Once you can do recovery rides you will at least have an escape.

Each Friday, before I leave work, I make sure to delete my browser history and cookies. I do it largely because I log in to many personal sites, and I do not want that data staying on the computer.
Anyway, when I come in the next week and go to Craigslist.com, I always find it interesting what city is defaults to. Rarely is it the city in which I live.

You should use an IP geolocation site each morning too and see if they match up.
edit: I just tried out iplocation.net at work, to see what it says. One tool says Wilmington, DE, two say Kansas, one says Arizona, and one is correct. Craigslist was correct when I went and looked.

I'm thinking about replacing my F-150 with a small car. If I do, it'll have to be able to take a trailer hitch for a bike rack. Money that I don't spend on a car can be spent on bike stuff and related travel (I'm retired and pretty much on a fixed income), so price is a consideration. I'm 6'2" and have grandkids, so I need some room. Recommendations?

Do you want a new car? Or newish but used?
