Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

What is a #&$? A weapon?
Yeah, took me a minute.

i've been next to a lightning strike. I raced motocross on two strokes before mufflers were required. The loudest noise i've been subjected to was as InSync concert with my daughter. (not the band, the girls watching).

Anyway, that's about it for me. Hope everyone is doing well.

Ah, yeah - that's going to be problematic for this type of game. One of the beautiful aspects is that you can choose your playthrough style, which is awesome in terms of replayability. but a lot depends on interaction with non-player characters, whether you sweet-talk, intimidate, perform tasks, etc.

Reminds me of the scene from Woody Allen's "Take The Money And Run", where he passes a barely legible note to a bank teller:

"'I have a gub. Give me all your cash.' Gub? What's a gub?"

At a sailing buddy's wedding, they borrowed a yacht race starting cannon, which fires a blank shot#&$ shell, to fire at some point in the ceremony. The crowd was mainly military and because they me pegged as the only corps officer in the bunch and a big city, lib, academic, Jew and had nothing else for me to do, they naturally made me fire the cannon. I put a finger in the near ear and pulled the lanyard with the far hand and HOE-LEE ****! was that loud! I had actually fired a #&$s, including shot#&$s, in the past, without hearing protection because I was a punk-ass kid, and this was way louder. I had tinnitus for many minutes and I'm sure it took my auditory thresholds on the left down a permanent notch.

Dinner was in a tent, right next to the flagpole where the cannon was sitting and during dessert and dancing and toasts and whatnot, I remembered the extra shell in my pocket and it was obvious what needed to be done. This time I enlisted some help, a real retired line officer, former XO of the Kittyhawk, i.e., the real thing. I put fingers in both ears and made him do it. He was terrified.

I now wear hearing protection when using gas powered lawn equipment as well.
I have high frequency hearing loss in my right ear, which I blame on 4 years of sitting at a desk in the lab, with noisy microcentrifuges to the right of me. Generally not a problem, unless I'm listening to early stereo recordings through headphones, the ones where they would put the lead singer all on one side, e.g. "Eleanor Rigby".

The one video game that I ever had success with is Portal. I do remember as I was playing through I did devote fairly large blocks of time to it.

Now, yeah, it's only occasionally that I have large blocks of time to myself, so I've got no real desire to start up something again.

I've never done that, thankfully.

But I have done that. One band in particular I remember causing some damage. The worst part is that they weren't even good

My hearing isn't awful, but there is some tinnitus there.

My future SIL has a collection of antique things like flintlocks and other muzzleloaders. He also has a couple of Civil War era cannons. All of it was handed down to him over several generations. He keeps the cannons on a family ranch, and every great once in a while will fire one for grins. I'm still waiting for the invite to check it out some day.

And, no, he's not a member of any militia.

My dad has bad hearing, and I think my hearing is going as well. If you talk to my wife she would tell you i’m deaf, what she wouldn’t tell you is that she always try’s to have conversations with me when she is on the opposite side of the house. Or when we are in the car she talks to her window instead of looking at me.

But yes, I am deaf.
