1994 Stumpy M2 FS Headset Bearings?
Hi All!
I picked up this bike with a bum front Future Shock. Taking it off I see the headset has sealed tapered bearings top and bottom. Can I use any threadless shock up front or will the headset bearings need replacing? I have a RockShox Silver 30 I was thinking of using.

One would think that any other fork that has the same steerer specs will interchange within that headset. No mention of this headset's condition?
Before you invest too much $ in this frame do a very thorough look over. There's a reason why M2 tubing material is no longer in use. Cracks at or near the welds is the first concern. Andy

Thanks Andy. It’s an Aheadset headset. I’ve looked over the bike and no signs of crack, so that’s a plus. Appreciate the info on the possible M2 issue!

If the crown race fits and the bearings are smooth I don’t see an issue. I would guess that if you wanted to, you could replace just the sealed bearing cartridges.
I’m not up to speed on differences between headset mfg’s cartridge bearings, (i.e Aheadset vs Cane Creek), but I can’t imagine component mfgs make their own cartridges. There may well be a standard OD/ID and race angles.
