Star Trek 6/10
Agree that the story was a little weak but thought the movie was ok overall.

"Up In the Air"
George Clooney stars as a corporate hatchet man who enjoys his no strings attached lifestyle and is obsessed with
collecting air miles. Critics are raving about this film but it takes an energy zapping detour in the third reel and winds up to be vaguely unsatisfying.

Red Cliff - directed by John Woo, depicting the legendary Battle Of Red Cliffs, which heralded the end of the Han Dynasty and the beginning of the period of the Three Kingdoms.

"Me and Orson Welles"
A teenager(Zac Efron) finds his way onto the New York stage in the late 30's and takes part in a show directed by a young Orson Welles (Christian McKay). McKay nails the part and Efron brings refreshing enthusiasm to the big screen.
Great music and a must see for folks who love live theater.

sweet sweetback's baaaaaaadass song. even though it is a pioneering blaxploitation film, expected a little bit more substance. 5/10.

"It's Complicated."
Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin star in a soon to be released comedy about a divorced couple drawn together again through a family graduation. Baldwin shines and Streep turns in a fine comedic performance. A subdued Steve Martin co-stars. Feels a little long toward the end but I couldn't think of any scenes that could have been cut. One scene involving an Internet cam is a howl. A nice comedy for grownups.

Star Trek. I liked it. The acting was a bit hackneyed at times, but Star Trek was always a bit hackneyed, anyway.

Avatar. We've seen a string of crappy movies recently and this was a great surprise. I knew it was going to look pretty but the movie's pretty great even aside from the special effects. My better half gave it a big thumbs up. The only complaints were that the 3D glasses that we watched with made the screen seem dim and for some reason the 3D would go out of focus for my girlfriend, possibly due to her astigmatism or contacts.

I haven't watched many movies of late. I watched The Hangover last night and pmsl.
My wife and son saw Where the Wild Things Are a couple of days ago and reckoned it was great.
Oh, and I also revisited 'Leningrad Cowboys Go America', which I got for my birthday a couple of months ago. LOLZ

Der Baader Meinhof Komplex 8/10
With English subtitles; for those old enough to remember the news stories, it portrays the early days of West Germany's Red Army Faction.

Avatar - 7/10, I'd say. Old story, predictable plot, rehashed characters (I'll bet every character has been in at least thirty movies so far), but man, it sure looked good. They avoided the "Uncanny Valley" effect by using aliens as the CGI characters, which helped make it a lot more appealing than, say, Polar Express and its creepy attempt at CGI humans. They also designed an entire biosphere to populate the planet and make it more believable.

Just got off the trainer while watching "Cloverfield".
Had absolutely no idea what this movie was about and after 20 minutes of hand held teen angst silliness and cloying flirty dialogue I was reaching for the off button when the statue of liberty's head came rolling down Broadway. Not a great movie but a fun surprise during 90 minutes of indoor pain.
I'll give it an 8 for fun.

^^ I liked Cloverfield, too. It was fun to see a giant monster movie from the point of view of one of the "ants" running around in the street. All the other movies focus on the monster(s) and/or the triad of world leaders, scientists, and military organizations.

Loved it when all the kids whipped out their cell phones to take pictures of the statue's head laying there. And where were all the people over 24 and under 20 in that film?
Just to keep up the thread. "Balls of Fury" had to be the stupidest piece of celluloid ever. Christopher Walken, what's got inta ya?

"Sherlock Holmes."
Screened this eagerly awaited film the other night, starring Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law and Rachel McAdams. Downey brings comic relief, charm and action to the lead character. Dark overtones reminded me of "Sweeney Todd." Great fight ring and shipyard action sequences. Story may be hard to follow, but comes together in the end when audience is hand led through plot twists. Can McAdams help avert global disaster? She can save my world anytime!
Ending sets up the sequel.

It's Complicated
A very funny movie for grown ups. Saw it in a packed theater. The whole place was laughing hard. Long time since i've been to a movie that has done that. 8 out of 10.
Star Trek
Ok there is some plot stretching in this one. Name an action adventure movie that there isn't? The movie flows and is good entertainment. Exactly what i want in a movie. 7 out of 10.
