A few years ago I sold it to a forum member who has also moved it on to a different forum member.

My Trek 760

This is my Trek 760. It is a great rider. It feels very light and responsive. Workmanship on the frame and fork are top notch and the metal flake paint is still nice after all these years. I bought the bike just last year from an elderly man who was the second owner. He wasn't able to ride it any more or deal with the tubular tires. I rebuilt the wheels with Araya clincher rims. Also, the previous owner had put a triple crankset (Sugino AT) and I changed that crank to an Avocet double. Ride on!

Question for my ‘83 760 friends: do the blue and grey paint have that typical deep sparkle to them?

There’s no sparkle in the paint at all.

You’ve got the complete list. Interesting, but my 83 760 never had the 531 decals on the fork. I bought it in 1983 from a former coworker who only had it a few months but was forced to sell. I never had the fork decals but all the photos I’ve seen for 760’s show the fork decal.

@natterberry - My 84 has additional decals. It was rattle canned but the decals were masked. Pictures here.
In that set is a fork from 85 with the Reynolds decals.
Don't know if the decal set is much different between 84 and 85. There has been a challenge to find the same decals for my 84. I think VeloCals now has them.

My current ‘85 scheme has a set similar to yours. Seems like they added a few for those years compared to the ‘83 I’m going for. I think I found some color samples I like, I’ll post them up later.

I’ll be buying just the Trek letters and yellow bands from velocals. I’ll have a panel powder coated the same color as the head tube.

1985 Trek 760

Hello Trek Enthusiasts,

I am new here! I too have Vintage Trek 760 Pro Series 531 Reynolds - 1985' Beaujolais with yellow decals. (The Serial is 1984 manufacturing, but I am confident based on my research in 1985)
The frame is in great shape given the year. Only a few small scratches and with original decals.

It is currently equipped with NON stock parts. My ex was a professional racer, so he rebuilt it back in 1992.
  • Shimano 105 Shifters, Font and Rear Derailleurs and Brakes
  • Shimano Dura Ace – Crankset and Seat post
  • Sarnn racing bike stem
  • Mavic racing wheels with new tires
  • Shimano Clipless pedals
It has been recently tuned and is ready for the road. I love riding it, but I am consider selling it, but do not know the real value since it does not have the original component. Would it be better to part it out, invest in finding original components or sell as is?
I would love some feedback.
I have seen some chats about touch up paint, so if any one has a good "lead" on that then please share!
I love the bike, but I have three Treks as it is.

Any thought or comments would e greatly appreciated.

Lisa

Hi Lisa
You ought to post this in the Classic and Vintage Bicycles: Whats it Worth? Appraisals section for quicker information. Value is very dependent on the specific market you are selling the bike in.

Does everyone pretty much every one agree the 760 is about as good as it get for vintage Treks.....top of the gene pool......I know theres the 170 and 900......but do you think the 760 is close to perfect......can stand next to anything

@homelessjoe - I am getting there. I have had a 760 hanging in the garage(s) for a few years now. I recently built it up with Superbe Pro parts and was surprized at the weight, <21lbs. It rides really well but I have not taken it out for a longer ride yet. It still needs some tweaks.
The only bad thing about it is the rattle can paint job.
After I have it out for more typical rides, I can make some kind of assessment. It has baseline that is reasonably challenging as in a De Rosa and Pinarello to measure upto. The Colnago is likely a better comparison given the year apart and DT shifting with 7V. 58 vs 60 frames too.

The thing I loved on the 760/770 was that it was a great long ride bike with it's lower bottom bracket and less steep angles made it smooth and comfortable for the long haul. At the time of it's creation bikes were tending toward criterium geometry with steeper angles and high bottom brackets.

1986 Pro Series 760 (12/84 braze date), full 531c, Campy NR drivetrain, Modolo Equipe brakes, Mavic tubular (Normandy hubs) wheelset. One amazing, light (20.5) and quick bike.

Well oldsKool,

I should have my head examined for posting this, but I have been saving these "real deal" stickers and decals for the last 35 years. I probably need to clear a few things out. I was looking for a few bits to send to Brent and ran across these and having not used them for the 35 year period, it is time for them to go. I really don't want any mayhem so please PM me about some of this if it appeals to you. Smiles, MH

These are the five colors that the down tube bands came in. I worked in a very large sales shop and these came in as replacements for damaged bands from the older Parks stands.

These are the alcohol decals from the factory for down tubes. The frame stickers are same application as current paste on ones. I think the USA stickers are from some of the team bikes in the early 80's or a few of the higher end models.

These are old school Reynolds frame tube and fork tube decals.
Since these are all factory replacement parts, they will restore the bikes they go on to "new out of the box" condition. Thanks to oldsKool for the reminder about this era of TREK bikes. Smiles, MH

I'd be happy to buy the brown one for my 1982 Trek 720 and the Reynolds frame and fork stickers.

Well oldsCOOL,
I have had some interest in these, so I am thinking I should put them out for $15 per set and I will pay shipping. One set per person, and, again please PM me. Give details and color needed and year so I can send the correct tubing decals. Thanks, MH

Silver, Light blue, Brown are spoken for. Still available are Maroon, Dark blue.
