22PRs on today’s ride and 7 PR ties. It was a good day.

There may have been a little assist from the wind. I actually had to cut my ride short as the crosswind sections were too dangerous. But I've ridden these segments a bunch and have never come close, even with tailwinds.

Riding with an upstart 50 year old with power numbers a third greater than mine, pushed me to two KOMs for my age bracket on two climbs. Managed four PRs as well. Moral to the story: ride with someone younger and stronger.

I do a couple rides every week on the cycling course at Yoyogi Park in Tokyo. I was surprised to find that I was the fastest this year, and the 14th fastest of all time for any age group (4th fastest for over 55), and I’ve only been consistently back on the bike for 8 weeks.

Nicest day of the year so far. had lunch with my dad that resulted in a bit of a route change. ended up with 14 PRs today. looks like there will be more lunches in our future.

Nabbed a 4th and 10th overall today on some heavily used segments… Did it during a 20 min interval, not full gas but pushing it a bit.

Took a KOM/Segment away from a friend a few days ago. I'm close to 30 years older than he is and beat him by one second. The best part is the segment didn't show up on my Garmin and I didn't even know I took it away from him until I got home that evening. I enjoyed teasing him on Strava hehehe.

I managed to get 8th on the All Time 10 lap average for the Yoyogi cycling path, I got 2nd for my age group. I kind of goofed it as I had miscounted how many laps that I had done, and the last one I was warming down.
I’ve picked up 6 spots over my last effort, maybe I can eventually catch the top spot. The park was crowded today as it is the first of the Golden Week holidays, and I had to slow down and wait a few times.

Hey I managed to hold the live NY Central Park loop lap orange jersey on Zwift for a couple of hours the other day! I think my laptime was 15:33. It wasn't a full on effort, so I was a bit surprised.

now that i am looking, yeah, that is close to 24 mph. very doubtful or a good motor. it amazes me that people do this sort of thing.

24 mph on a 7.5% slope at 180W is complete fantasy cycling. I suspect there was a bug in the program that generated those times. You see the same thing with Zwift Strava segments. Ridiculous speeds for ordinary power.

incidentally, i thought i had done that ride before. it was the same pass but up the other side. it had the same wonderful filming but horrid switch back nonsense.

Even on the real Strava segments, there often will be an outlier KOM that's several miles per hour faster than all the others.

i saw the 180W too. i think i was at ~197 and still took over 90 minutes. the only one that might be reasonable was 3rd place with about 375W IIRC.

what is a virtual segment? does strava make a distinction? if you mean a segment ridden on a trainer then i don't see the difference with those that do real ride with a motor attached or a car providing the HP.

Strava does make a distinction between virtual segments on a trainer app such as Zwift or Rouvy and real life road segments. They are not mixed together.

A short segment on my local ride goes up 3 very tight - like 5mph max tight - switchbacks with short 5-10% grades in between. Top speed going up is like 42MPH. Not happening on any bike - or any vehicle for that matter. Top 10 is all above 30MPH - not happening either.
My best full gas effort - hitting the first leg at 30MPH (with a tailwind) and pushing over 500w was 44 seconds. The KOM is 18 seconds. No way, no how.

Strava recently banned the creation of short segments, claiming that GPS data are too inaccurate to make short segments sensible. But they left all the existing short segments, with all their oddball leaderboard entries.
I think the new lower limit for segments is 500 meters (0.31 miles).
