1,000 mile milestone

I reached 1k miles yesterday at mile 40 in my ride. It doesn't really seem as big of a deal now as it did 3 months ago when I would not have believed it possible. The bigger deal now is my goal just for September is 500 miles which is still a mind blowing total for me. Here is a pic of my bike just after I passed my 1000th mile on my way to my first ever 50+ miles ride, which ended up ending at 54 miles.

Imgur: The most awesome images on the Internet

I am glad I got 50 done, but I think I need to stick with 40 mileish rides for a while yet, the 54 miles almost killed me.

Congratulations on the half century. I'm still working toward my goal of 2,000 miles for the year. Got less than 600 miles to go.

Congrats, my summer outdoors riding goal is always 1500 miles. hard to do for me sometimes but its a goal. I remember the first summer I got 1K outdoors. I was really happy when I did it. Now I am disappointed if I don't his 1250!

You progressed faster than most, going from untrained and exhausted after a couple of miles to regularly riding 40 miles without much effort. I would urge you to be on guard against burnout. When the off season comes, do other things to stay in shape so you hit next spring with renewed enthusiasm.

Took me about 18 months to get overreached-- but I think that was partly assisted by the fact that there's no winter here, and December is usually one of my highest mileage total months. Well, year-round riding combined with an inability to pace/limit myself or take days off to rest.

Regardless, taking winters off sounds like a bummer.

It is, but the reality is, with shorter days, ice, snow and cold, the mileage for all but the hardiest riders, and maybe fatbike enthusiasts will go down from early December to early March.

It's posts like this that make me feel ashamed that I've only ridden, possibly 200 miles total this year. The past few years I averaged 1500-2000 annually. Anyway, great job OP, keep up the good work and PLEASE don't get lazy and slack off like me just because you hit 1000 miles.

Thanks all! I am going to ride outside as long as I can and then I am going to find a used decent trainer to ride in the winter as much as I can. The big downside I can't see myself pedaling going no where for 3+ hours like I do outside. I guess I will find out in a month or two.
